Re: Points maintenance

Thanks, all! I'll check the points gap and go from there. Carb might be an issue too. Appreciate all the advice.

Points maintenance

What are the symptoms that points need adjustment, dressing, or replacement? My A runs a little rough, and won't idle without dying. New gas, timing spot on, puzzled.

Re: Is it worth saving an empty trans case and bell housing?

I only discard Model A parts if I know they are being reproduced by reputable folks, and even then only when they are in very rough condition. Pretty sure bell housings and trans cases are not! ...

Re: Oil change?

I should have mentioned that it's always been in a heated garage, but the points are taken. I will change oil, flush the radiator, and refill. Thanks all,

Oil change?

I haven't driven my A more than a couple hundred miles in the last ten years, I'm ashamed to say, but I'm thinking I should maybe change the oil anyway. I know it wouldn't hurt, but is it really...

Re: several times the 2 blade fan loosens on the water pump

I've had a six-blade plastic fan for the past ten years. No troubles and no worries. But if the look is important to you, then I wouldn't go there.

Re: Sears Marvel 2405

I have run a Marvel in the past and probably would again if I could find the fitting mine required at the carb inlet in order to adapt it to a standard Model A fuel line. I haven't seen this...

Re: Fan Blade Nut

If the "look" doesn't bother you, consider a six-blade plastic fan.

Re: Cost of a NEW Model A in 1930?

My dad used to tell about how in the early thirties they would take an entire wagon load of corn to the local elevator (in Hillsdale, Illinois) and get $1.00 for it.

Re: You ever do something really STUPID?

Done stupid things? If you ask me, hardly ever. If you ask my wife, well. . . . You're likely to get a different answer!

Re: Battery tray vs floor board removal

How ever you get access to your battery, one of those battery lifters that attaches to the posts makes the actual lifting out a lot easier. I think they're available at most auto parts stores.

Re: Won't Start....

As for the fuel issue: Has the car run since the new carb to manifold gasket was installed? I wouldn't just assume that it's tight and seated properly and there are no leaks. Wouldn't hurt to...

Re: Advice needed for buying my roadster

IMO, it's better to pay more up front for something in better condition. You might find something for $12,000, but you're going to spend that much and probably more to get it where you want it.

Re: Car would not restart

I know, I know. It's always the condenser. But this time I think it really is. I didn't see anywhere that it has been replaced. Would not hurt to try a new one.

Re: Trouble starting my Model A

Of course it's the condenser. It always is!

No, seriously, it does sound like a fuel problem, if it was running okay and then just stopped. Or the condenser.

Re: It’s getting harder to drive my A

I'm 80 now, and just don't take my roadster out any more. I'm afraid that if something went wrong I wouldn't be able to handle it anymore. And where do you have an "A" towed to if something you...

Re: Pasadena High School Model A Ford Club

Back in the late 1970s, some students in a shop class in a local high school restored the front fenders for my 1930 A pickup. Did a great job, too.

Re: Starter stuck in on position

Take it apart. What's wrong will probably be evident. As 31 Tudor says, it's not a difficult job. Make sure all insulating materials are in place and not disintegrating.

Re: Wheel color mystery

Marco's roadster has bright blue wheels, but I'm not sure what the color is called. Your blue-green sounds like gun-metal blue, which is the color of the reveals on my '29 roadster.

Re: Need Advice on Emergency Brake Shoes

If they're really tight I wouldn't try number 1. Number 2 sounds like a much better plan to me. I don't know if you even have to do all the things you suggest with tape and dye. I'd just...

Re: Motometer does not seem to register anything

I dipped the sensor of my repro moto meter (from a reputable vendor) in boiling water and it registered nothing at all. Looks nice, though.
