Re: New Ahooga Horns from Suppliers

I run across Hutchins horns for sale but sellers often don't know whether the horn is 6V or 12V. How does one tell which?

Re: Wheel Bearing Part #’s

Ford used the same bearings from 1928 - 1948. The round back 37-41 spindles and the later 42-48 square back spindles used a grease seal on the inner aspect.

Re: Cooling Air Flow Experiment

Use of an infrared heat gun test device over the face of a radiator will show fairly uniform temps at various sections on a very good one. Most radiators will show a mix of hotter and cooler spots.

Re: valve clearence , B motor

A new NOS Ford Model B cam or some other interpretation thereof? The stock Model B cam had an intake lobe lift of 0.334 inches (0.015 inch valve clearance) and an exhaust lobe lift of 0.341 inches...

Have you measured the lift on all of the lobes on the B-cam?

Re: What to spray onto metel immeditely after removing rust?

Exactly! I haven't found anything better, provided you don't leave the treated material exposed to rain or ocean spray.

Re: Racked Radiator Shell

I would mount the radiator to the front crossmember then mount the shell to the radiator. You may be surprised that what looks "racked" off the pickup will turn out to be OK when mounted in place.

Re: pinion gear double cup bearing issue

How can a new bearing race be secured in a banjo when the interference fit of the casting has been spun out as shown in the photo? A new double cup race shouldn't be floating around in the banjo.

Re: Oil, pan, front seal retainer

I have thought that the seal outer surface beds into the rough surface which prevents the seal from being spun in the retainer, especially on initial start-up when there is a lot radial torque...

Carb Disassembly Tips

I'm about to clean and rebuild several Zenith Model A and B carbs and looking for a better approach to removing the choke and throttle plate screws. This has been previously problematic because...

Re: Update on 1928-48 Universal Joint kit installation

The C-clips are made of spring steel which explains why it is difficult to coax them out of the grooves. The trick is to give the clips a hard smack with a dull chisel. This helps to relieve the...

Re: Update on 1928-48 Universal Joint kit installation

Also of interest would be a source for the circular spring clips. They are an odd size which is hard to approximate using the common SAE or metric sizes. When being pushed into position they are...

Re: Easy Engine Sludge Removal

It helps to remove as much sludge manually before spraying on the oven cleaner. I use an old putty knife and a plastic spatula. The warmer the block the faster goes the process, so I never bother...

Re: engine knock

The dipper tray was lowered in late 1931 for the Model A in order to accommodate changes designed to reduce oil consumption while better distributing oil throughout the tray. This was carried...

Re: Drilled crank?

The B crank already has pressurized oil to the main bearings. The drilling is to allow pressurized oil to the rod bearings which, on the original crankshaft, were oiled by dippers.

Re: Best Electric Fuel Pump?

Since most electric fuel pumps are designed for 12 volt systems, what happens when one is installed in a 6-volt system. If it runs at 3 PSI on 12 volts, does it run at 1.5 PSI on 6 volts?

Re: T rear spring in the rear of model a??

The 10-leaf was for a sedan. The coupe had an 8-leaf and the roadster a 7-leaf. The roadster rear spring had a different (lower) profile than the others and a unique spring pack configuration.

I have to ask about another area where a notch often forms: on rear axle shafts where the seal riding on the shaft can form a concentric groove. Would this create a stress riser that might cause the...

Re: Zenith throttle plate modification

The early Model B Zenith carbs (B-1 type) featured a notched groove in the upper surface of the throttle plate adjacent to the idle port hole. This was later eliminated with the change to the B-2...
