Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Make sure you seal the head bolt threads when you install them. There are multiple products that work just fine - Permatex Purple Gorilla Snot (non hardening), ARP Teflon thread sealer, pipe...

Re: Help - 47 Ford manual transmission repair needed

If he has tools, an engine lift, some good jack-stands and basic mechanical know-how it is not that bad of a job to pull the engine/trans as one unit. Of course I'm assuming a lot with that...

Re: Spindle pin bore

Yeah, the guys I'm jealous of are the ones that have a super-quality lathe that is totally accurate with a 3-jaw chuck. I only wish I was "that guy"! LOL

I just purchased a used 8" 3-jaw for my...

Re: Help - 47 Ford manual transmission repair needed

I second the idea to call the Early V8 garage - they know our cars and all the components, so if they can work you in - they'd be who I'd go to.

Re: KRW hub puller question

I have a completely different type - is available at Snyders for those who don't have the KRW type and need something. I've used it quite a few times - has worked fine:

Re: Anyone with experiences working with Gocat speed shop?

The problem with most guys like him is that they don't have any money to go after - they're busy spending whatever they can scam from the new guys . . . just to pay bills and survive.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

All you really need is a good accurate steel ruler . . . you lay it on edge and then see first of all if there is "light" coming through anywhere on the head. You can use a feeler gauge underneath...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I think you made a very smart choice! Also, they will balance it . . . which is not a bad idea either.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Yeah - I wish I had a big lathe to do this type of work in. Any time you weld, the weld will "pull" the material as it cools - just a fact of life. Hopefully you can straighten it as you get it...

Re: New versus old valve springs

I've always just used a valve lapping tool - with only fine lapping compound. Same tool with flatheads, big overhead valves, etc.. Most have recessed heads to reduce weight. Maybe the suction cup...

Re: 6-pack or 4 in a row

I'd look for a four carb Edelbrock intake. You'll need to make a fan idler and hang the generator off of an adapter on the head. How many cubic inches in your motor? I'd probably run 97's if it...

Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam

KR Wilson made those setups . . . a friend has a set of two of them. Given that stock engines did not have adjustable lifters, my guess is that these were designed to help diagnose issues in the...

Re: New versus old valve springs

Check with Thirdgen and Mac VanPelt and see what they have for valve springs. You don't need a lot of spring pressure and they should be able to set you up with the proper longer springs.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

If you've got a MIG welder, should not be too difficult. I'd strengthen the original with some rectangular .120 or .187 wall tubing. Something around 1.5" square or so. You can complete the two...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I imagine the current cross-member is riveted or welded into the frame? Is it possible to remove it and then rework it outside the vehicle, then bolt it back in when done?

If it is too tall in...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

There is no reason to leave that protrusion on the case. You might consider making a tubular cross-member to pick up the rear transmission mount of the T5. You can design/build/weld this up...

Re: Evans Aluminum Heads

They look pretty good to me. Interesting that they have a pretty deep transfer area as well - good for flow and higher RPM usage for sure. Would be interesting to CC them.

BTW, buying a load-leveler is not an expensive deal - just checkout Jeg's or Summit Racing.

Hey Tim: Here is a fun picture - shows the top of the block with the top-girdle that I designed as well. You can see the breathing potential with the port work. I had between 400 and 500 hours on...

Re: Long Reach Plug

The original reason is that when we started, there were no records set at Bonneville with a flathead Cadillac engine . . . ever. Seemed like a good challenge.

I had never worked/built one, so I...

Re: New Rookie Question about Removing 32 Engine

Take the front of the car off - including the grill, radiator, radiator support rods, etc..

1) I think it is always easier to remove the engine and transmission in one go. This also gives you a...
