Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Re: Condenser

I have had 3 condensor failures in my flathead powered vehicles in the last 8 years. Two while driving and one no start in town. I am pretty gun shy about what is normally available out there. I am...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Thanks Mart, yes there was a gasket for the pickup tube I just installed. I was pretty sure I'd never seen a gasket at the pump's base, but no harm in asking. My gasket set had a gasket for the plate...

Re: Condenser

Is there a range of something like 'microfarads' that we could compare to search for a common, more reliable part? Maybe even something that is not used for an automobile. I know very little about...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Lotsa good info there Fred, Thanks! I went down to the shop at 5:30 am to take a look-see on the shelves and found a nice fan hub, bolt on type with a steel 4 blade. Then up high on a nail i see that...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Thanks all. Been quite fun for me too. With adventures in head doming behind us I got a bit of time this afternoon to dig up a few more parts. I found a nice fitting fuel pump push rod. I had about...

Re: Condenser

Out of curiousity, what do they give you when you buy a condensor for your cessna or beechcraft? Maybe they use mags, but they have condensors. I have always heard that condensors aren't real fussy...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

After the amazing dinner the 'kids' cooked for us on the barbeque, I snuck out there with the grandkids and we roasted hostess twinkies on sticks over the coals. Wait til they find out they're having...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Great to know how thick! I think I'm totally fine in that department. Family here now, the engine shop is shut down for a few days. Three of my four kids here tonight for my 71st birthday dinner.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I told my wife it was like falling a really big tree. And in the end you did it right or you didn't.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Thanks guys, it's been a fun challenge, but I'm more than ready to be past this dome clearance thing. It is quite stressful and very time consuming. Funny thing about it is that If I didn't cave in...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Pics of the second head. Today I started where I left off with the angle grinder and the too thick old gasket last week. I did some fairly aggressive grinding and then set it up in the 3rd world...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Pete you are always there for us sight impaired barners. Against my eye doctor's wishes I find myself taking off the new trifocals and reaching for the 3.0 readers to read the fine print.
Tim,...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I'll never let it outa my grip. I can picture a steel mounting tab welded onto a piece of 2" tube at a 45 degree angle. This thing would be the ****!, I mean the cat's meow!

Here is a pic I took...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I'm hoping to start the passenger side head today and will take photos. I continue to refine my process as I get a handle on how best to use this contraption. I learned that it is very helpful to...

Re: 1947 1.5-Ton Front Leaf Spring

I'm thinking in your part of the country, this truck must be quite free of rust. We like pictures! And I'm glad you found more parts and closer too.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I certainly plan to do that and will get it onto my youtube channel. I haven't put anything on there for over a year. I still have parts to order and then there's the whole T5 thing to deal with. I...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I got one head all dialed in and I'm happy...

Re: One Head stud too short each bank follow-up

Those 'mill spec' washers in 1/2" would be just right on main bearing caps.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I have a couple well worn .030 blocks and pistons. I found that with 60 grit adhesive sandpaper on a .030 piston, the contour is exactly the same as my .125's crown. I have a ton of rods so I cut one...

I just went down to the shop to test the one I am putting together. I'm not an expert, but have assembled about 8 or 9 of thse over the years and the current one feels just right to me. The cam gear...
