Re: Dropping the oil pan

Just mentioning it will help to include the inspection and reworking the oil pump. I have cleaned several screens, and replaced the driver gear in different drivers so while you are there, as Paul...

Re: Dropping the oil pan

I don't remember if the oil pump shaft has an offset like the distributor shaft has.
Stand corrected.

Re: Dropping the oil pan

If you pull the oil pump that can affect the timing. Les Andrews red manual is an excellent reference. Local club members would certainly be helpful.

Re: Dropping the oil pan

Gary (#2 ) mentioned, including the valve chamber clean out. This is a good idea. I have found sediment there that will block the oil channels to the cam. I used pipe cleaners , drills, probes, a...

Re: Dust bowl AA

Spare on the cab roof. Wonder where the rest of the family rode? They hung on until 39. Tough bunch for sure.

Re: WWII Ration truck

Cowl lights, and planed hub caps. There was a similiar conversion in Brentwood at least 30 years back. It was a driver.

Re: Shifting to reverse

Look for a broken rivet/pin that holds each fork in position. Or the detents may be worn.
I did a series on rebuilding the shift tower that might help.

Re: Lifting 30 Tudor body

By elevating the body you can rollout the chassis. I don't trust trusses to handle much weight.
A 4wheel base that the detached body can set on, is an alternative.

Re: Lifting 30 Tudor body

Try saw horses and 2x4s, you could go corner by corner, or back then front. 4 young bucks can lift the body as a unit. A floor Jack is your friend. Just watch your rafter clearances. Baby steps.

Re: Cleaning the radiator

On your test drive the car will seek its coolant level, try just below the baffle. You are looking for keeping the engine from overheating. Especially under load, think hills.
I traded a Mitchell...

Re: Exhaust manifold intake bolts broke

It's a crap shoot, castings do vary, I tried direct tapping, but ended up with this fix.
If the initial retapping breaks thru the pocket in the casting you have a probable leak.

Re: Exhaust manifold intake bolts broke

I have drilled and tapped and installed a bolt, 3/8" or 1/2", cut flush, and then drilled and tapped for the manifold bolt. A plug if you will.
The casting has a pocket for the manifold bolt, and...

Re: Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft

Cut the shaft close to the bottom of the head, find a socket that is close to the diameter of the hole for the distributor and use that socket to tap out the distributor.
A soak in rust911 first if...

Re: Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft

Cut the shaft flush then drill it out? The distributor body is fragile.
