Re: 39 rear shock problem
Sure enough, your axle housings are switched left and right.
And for the record, the only relevant difference I see between your '39 and my '41 is that on the '39 the spring fits up inside the...

Re: 39 rear shock problem
We really need to see a picture of what you have.
It is possible to switch axle housings with the rear end in the car. EXCEPT, for the fact that backlash (spacing) between the ring gear on the...

Re: 39 rear shock problem
The axel perch is at the top of the shackle and the spring eye at the bottom, right? Maybe post a picture.

Re: 39 and later brake adjustment
I do not have a brake pedal jack, and usually not a human assistant.
Can the lower eccentric adjustment be accomplished by using the top adjustment to put the top of the shoes against the drum, and...

Re: 59AB no spark at plugs
The starter will take it indefinitely, as long as you do not crank too long at one time. Any lights that are on may burn out. If on 12 volts very long, it may also burn out gauges and sensors.

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford
On the firewall on the driver side of the engine room there are a bunch of connectors between the dash wiring harness and the chassis wiring harness. The wire to tail lights and tag light are in...

Re: 1941 1/2 ton pickup
Champion makes aluminum radiators that will fit. If your engine is stock and the block not loaded with sand and rust, it will probably cool adequately. I tried one in my '41 coupe but the engine is...

Re: Air/Fuel Meter/gauge
Chat GPT says the sensor should be within 18" of the exhaust port and after any mixing of exhaust ports. With dual exhaust you can get the four sensors of either bank. If it goes in the heat riser...

Re: Air/Fuel Meter/gauge
Question for all flathead AF experts. Is it possible to tap into the exhaust heat riser crossover on the intake manifold to insert an AF sensor? Would the readings be useful?

Re: 59AB no spark at plugs
There should be a resistor on the circuit breaker panel up under the dash on the firewall, to the left. Stock type 6v coil needs that, but not a resistor on the coil itself. Maybe post pictures of...

Re: 59AB no spark at plugs
Check the voltage across your battery. Should be a little ove 6 volts. Then with the ignition on, check the voltage at the coil. If the points are open, the voltage on both sides of the coil...

Re: ‘53 ran hot, then missing badly. Head gasket?
How did the plugs look when you pulled them for the compression check? When you check the plugs, be sure they are not stock 7/16" thread length, which would leave the tip up into the spark plug...

Re: Faulty temp gauge, sending unit, or...?
With the ignition off, where is the temp gauge needle? It should go above the hot mark, but not completely out of sight. If out of sight, the gauge "zero" needs to be adjusted. That is not a...

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
So it would be simple to remove the lock pin and turn it around so that the nut provides the steering stop the way it should.

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
Sounds like you did the toe-in measurement correctly, and if the difference between frong-to-front and back-to-back was 1/16 to 1/8", you are good there. The spring is its own problem, but should...
