Re: Can’t determine battery ground

Look for a ballast resistor connected to the coil. 12-volt conversion would require that on an original type 1.5 Ohm primary type coil. If the coil is modern then it could be a 3-Ohm type for...

Re: Ruidoso MAFCA meet

PNM had to shut off electrical power to part of the town. It's going to be a rough one there.

Re: Is the bendix a nigtmare?

The 12-volt conversion makes it necessary to change the older style bendix to the later type as illustrated before. The starter spins at a higher RPM on 12-volt unless the fields are changed to the...

Re: 1916 couplet

1916 was the last of the brass model Ts even though they had reduced brass use that year. They still had a brass radiator and door handles.

Re: 8 volt battery usage

The 8-volt battery works well in golf carts that run on 32-volts. Many have gone to higher voltages in the modern era. For cars, it's just easier to go to 12-volt. It also makes a lot more sense if a...

Re: Difference between 47 & 48 F1 steering box

In some cases and especially with early vehicles, the sedan delivery models were considered to be commercial models by Ford but they tended to list them separately in the parts catalogs so there...

Re: 47 steering gear parts in Model A box?

For future information I figured I'd add this. If I remember correctly, the 1937 through 1948 passenger & light commercial (pickup) used the same steering gear. The roller sector came out in 1937....

Re: Too much gear lube

A lot of the "600W" lubes that are sold by vendors are not the original steam cylinder oil. They are mixtures of gear lube and viscosity builders such as STP oil treatment. Blended gear lubes of the...

Re: Zenith jet drill bits.

Jet reamers are available but the sets are a bit on the expensive side. Manufactured flow jets are reamed. A drill is just to get it close to size.

Common sense isn't taught any any school that I've ever known about. Some are born with more than others. A lot of it is more of the school of hard knocks. A person has to learn to take information...

Re: Rear end squealing/whining

Throw out bearings usually only make noise when you push the clutch pedal otherwise it isn't turning long. The pilot bearing or bushing in the flywheel only turns when the clutch is disengaged. With...

Re: Used stock interiors… yeah.

The seat springs are expensive so most folks will repair and use them if possible. The phaetons are popular open cars to restore to original so you don't see many getting parted out in recent years....

Re: 47 steering gear parts in Model A box?

F1 would be 1948 through 1952 1/2 ton pickups.

Ford used the light switch on the steering box through 1939 but my concern would be the length of the steering shaft in question. If too long then...

Re: Replacing hydraulic brake lines

If they are Ford brakes then they are likely Ford brake lines. Check the 1939 through 1948 brake parts to find dimensions.
