Re: Connecting rod play

You should have more to allow oil to flow thru the bearing for good cooling of the brg. You can increase it by sanding a little off the sides of the rods using a flat surface of some kind. This is...

Re: Enclosed car trailer for Model A

Mine is called 18', but that is the rectangular length inside, most trlr mfg's use total outside length when designating size. Mine is also 102" wide, wide enough to let you enter the car easily, I...

Re: rod nuts...why the odd size?

Me too! If building a high performance engine, the castellated nuts will strip off at high RPM's as they only have about 4 good thread on them.

Re: Model A engine in a 32 Model B

You could use the A pan, it would look a bit odd on the outside but would work. You could also carefully remove the rear section of the B pan by drilling or grinding the spot welds and weld it to...

Re: Antique Nationals

I have no pics, but the OHV banger class was won by Steve Serr driving his '32 fordor with his Miller head, the flathead banger class was won by Riverside Johnny driving his '29 roadster with a...

Re: Real Wheel Noise?

If its only rubbing in a turn, don't worry about it.

Re: Rear main options

I wouldn't worry about that crack at all. It is in the center of the bearing, and won't go anywhere or cause any problems.

Re: Rebuilt Engine Options

V8 clutch, the flywheel must be machined, so it becomes flat, and lighter, or better yet a diaphragm clutch, much smoother. The Burtz cam is very nice, but a regrind is MUCH cheaper, and can be...

Re: valve guide question

I did what you are contemplating one time on a friend's engine, a year or so later I again opened that engine for a different reason and found that one guide had slipped down nearly a full inch. The...

Re: Front and rear Hubs

I'm not sure what your question is. If your 'new' hubs have all 5 studs swedged in place, use them. Don't over torque, 60 lbs is very adequate.

Re: Babbit replacement

No, it is too soft. There are several grades of babbitt, get the best you can buy.

Re: "New Engine" Balancing"

Balancing a 4 cyl. engine does not have to be done as a unit, the crank, rods, flywheel, etc. can al be done separately.

Assembly lube is the best but either is fine for what you are doing.

Re: Tight crank gear

I always use a steel gear, a good, old, steel gear is better than a new cast iron gear.

Re: Tight crank gear

Heat the gear with a oxy/acet or blow torch. Heat it quite but not enough to show any color on it. It should then slip on, at least part way, then gently pound it on all the way. I made a driver...

Re: Not A, But Interesting

Very interesting! Makes me wonder how Ford and Dodge/Plymouth made their tubular axles in the late 30's? Chrysler also made one but it was a 3-piece unit with riveted on ends.

Re: Sticking valves?

I definitely recommend IMO but also think your rings may be worn, because the compression is slow but fine with oil added. Do the MMO first.

Re: Winfield Model M updraft carb

I don't know about Barry, the last ones I bought were from Steve Sturim in MI, [email protected]. They were of very good quality.

Re: Winfield Model M updraft carb

The difference between the S and the SR is that the later has an accelerator pump, not needed IMO. Gasket sets are available. Price depends on size, condition and are they complete with air-horn or...

Re: Side Water Outlet

The diamond is a genuine Ford part but cast by an outside foundry. That mark can be found on many Ford parts.
