You would probably have better luck putting new dimples in the plate under the springs. Use a flat washer up from the bottom NOT the one one intended for the 28. Ford changed to the flat washer...

I dip the stems in soapy water and just push them into the tube with my thumbs, edgewise of course. I haven't used any...
