Re: 1949 Ford pass car serial number locations
Van Pelt only shows one on the body for 49 Ford. Does not reference any on the frame.
I have a 49 Two door sedan frame that has a serial number 98BAxxxxx, with stars at each end, stamped on the...

1949 Ford pass car serial number locations
I know there is a serial number stamped in the right front frame horn near the cross member.
Are there any more stamped in the frame elsewhere like on earlier frames?

Re: T5 Shift Problems
Does it grind while shifting into reverse? If so, then the clutch is not fully disengaging.
That can also make it more difficult to shift into forward gears also.
General rule of thumb in...

Re: Seeking to learn
The Van Pelt test really says to release the clutch and count to 20 slowly?
So is that like 20 seconds?
That seems like an awful lot of time to wait to get the clutch disc to stop turning and...

Re: Merc-O-Matic / fluid in torque converter
Since it has already had fluid in it, you will be ok. Just dont dilly-dally around when filling it once its running.
To answer 34PKUP. When you add fluid to a torque converter you do it through...

Re: Merc-O-Matic / fluid in torque converter
There is nothing really any harder about rebuilding Ford cast iron transmissions compared to other transmissions.
Problem is finding someone familiar with them as they are somewhat primitive in...

Re: Merc-O-Matic / fluid in torque converter
In my shop, we always put at least 1 Qt of ATF in the torque converter for lube, during initial startup and lube the pump bushing with assembly lube.
Yes the converter will fill fairly quick but...

Re: Flathead intake manifold recomendations
Not sure on the 1932-1948 Offy regular dual manifold but on the 1949-1953 Offy regular dual manifold the generator mount is offset to the left 3/4" to help the generator clear the carb. Might be...

Why Shimming A Fuel Pump Changes Fuel Pressure
I have seen a lot written about this but no explanation of how it accomplishes it.
I am confused with how adding or removing shims to the fuel pump increases or decreases fuel pressure.
It...

Re: flathead pcv valve kit by jamco ...any good?
I have the same one that Jamco sells but I got it from a fellow in Canada. A while back there were some issues with Jamco filling orders so I went with him. He sells on EB.

Years ago I had new brake shoes on a corvair and a wheel cylinder leaked while in storage. They were soaked with brake fluid. What I did was boiled them in a pot of water on my now ex-wife's stove. I...

Re: Flathead Plug wire looms, HotRod
I got the ones from Flathead Jack for an 8BA style manifold and they no how, no way will fit. As usual, it seems most stuff I try to store buy wont fit. So I fabricated mine from 3/8" steel tubing...

Offenhauser head spark plug length
I have seen a number of threads on this issue and it seems the popular plug choice is the NGK B6L plug. That plug has a 7/16" reach, which may be fine for stock heads. My Offy 8BA-425 heads measure...
