Attended the Antique Nationals today, 5/26/24. Lots of Model A’s racing. I had a nice conversation wit Jim Brierly.

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio
I was happy with the 3.54 in my early 31 CCPU with a stock engine. I am even happier with it since I added a 6.1 Snyder head. Bear in mind though the CCPU is lighter than any other body style.

Re: Misfire mystery
In the early part of the video in post 110 it looks like the #1 spark plug is firing between the base of the porcelain insulator and the steel spark plug base. I.E. the plug is shorted to ground. You...

Re: puzzled
I have had cooling systems leak a small amount water when cooling down and then quit.
Usually tightening the hose connections cures it.

Re: Ethanol 101
Modern cars don’t suffer from this problem because the fuel tank is sealed.
Model A’s, lawn mowers and airplanes tanks etc, are vented all the time. Cold night fuel contracts and pulls in air....

Re: Transmission overhaul.
No, they looked good using Tom Endy’s criteria, I did reverse them though when I reassembled the tower.
I got your PM. Thanks.

If you have a Mitchel overdrive, shift it into neutral and immediately down shift the transmission without double clutching and then shift the Mitchell back into low or high.

Re: Bendix Spring bolts
Maybe my problem removing the starter with the modern Bendix is the F100 steering column???
I turned every which way and couldn’t get it around the the water inlet and steering column.

Re: Bendix Spring bolts
I am 85, can still do most everything I want do but hand cranking a Model A with a high compression head is one I can’t do.
I still hand prop my Cub but the lever arm is much longer on that.

Re: Bendix Spring bolts
Except when the starter fails on a tour and you have to drain the radiator and block, remove the water inlet to the block to get the starter and Bendix off the engine.
