Clem nailed it! Starts cold, won't start hot, ignition. Make sure coil polarity is correct and coil is correct for system voltage, The condenser will also start cold and not hot but the condenser...

Pick-up truck, 1930 closed cab
Closed cab pick-up, 1930. 12 volt system, turn signals, 35 Ford wheels with 16 inch radial tires. This is a very reliable, good running Model A and has been my daily driver the past several summers....

You can learn more with the head on than pulling it off. Leaky head gaskets do not have a blown out spot that is visible, in fact there will hardly be a discoloration. Something about single digits...

Sounds like the classic leaking head gasket. As long as the engine is doing light work it is happy. As soon as the engine is working harder the cylinder pressure increases and the hot gasses bypass...
