Re: will a ford-o-matic off a yblock bolt onto a flathead?? When I was a kid, my parents had a '51 Merc. It was a flathead V8 and had an automatic transmission. In the early '60's, the flathead wore out, so my dad just went to a junkyard and got a Y-Block V8 out of a later year Ford car and dumped it in there. He used an adaptor plate to mate the Y-Block to the air-cooled bellhousing.
Don't know if you can still buy them now. Might be best to ask some of our freinds in the early V8 forum. |
Re: will a ford-o-matic off a yblock bolt onto a flathead?? Unfortunately "Honest Charley's" does not deal in adapters anymore. He had so many types of adapters that you could almost put a Hemi in a Metropolitan.

Re: will a ford-o-matic off a yblock bolt onto a flathead?? Use the bell housing off of the flathead and the later model transmission will bolt to it.
