Spoon pedal in A V8

I know there are a lot of A v8's around, does anyone have any pictures of a spoon gas pedal installation. I only want to cut once. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Mine is a 28 roadster with a 59-A in it. I have a 32 truck spoon and stock firewall. I would love to see how you guys dealt with the recess. Also how high up on the firewall it is placed? Thanks Rich

The Bishop/Tardel book has some photos where you can kind of see how they went through the edge of the recess so the spoon would be inside with the bearing blocks attached to the engine side of the recess along with most of the shaft. Only the spoon and a bit of the shaft protrude into the cabin side.

My AV8 project is at the stage where I have the parts but with other irons in the fire, I haven't gotten to the mock up stage yet. I'd suggest getting your engine, transmission, and radiator locations solidified then start fitting pieces to get a good location, shaft length, and configuration. Too many variables to do otherwise. There were several configurations of spoon & jackshaft arrangements in the 30s & 40s. Some work well and some are either too long or too short.

I used 39 a truck pedal assembly, and hung it on the inside(I didn't have enough clearance on the out side.Had to fab a bracket that attached to the fire wall.Don't have any pictures,if you really need them I can take some and try to post them(not to good at posting pics.)

I have an AV8 with 59A. I used a 38 V8 pedal assy, just drilled the two mounting holes and bolted it up. I did bend it a little to make everything line up.

I mounted mine inside the firewall and ran the throttle rod through a hole to the carb.

I'm working on a '32 and I'm using the original spoon pedal. I did make up a new shaft and arm on the engine side of the fire wall to get the linkage on the left side. (Photos below)

Also, I remember seeing some pictures (but, of course, I can't find them) from AV8Paul (RIP) and he had a spoon pedal on his car. He said that he had to put the entire pedal and shaft on the inside of the fire wall because there wasn't enough room on the engine side.

Pete vs, Both of my 32's have late 40;s truck spoons work like a charm. The firewall is essentially flat and that style pedal is desighed for that. The 28 model A has a big inside recess instead of a flat surface like a 32. This recess is my dilemma. I have plenty of room so I dont have to mount it on the inside. While the Av8 book talks about using a mid thirties spoon, it doesnt go into too much detail about hanging it on that recess. Thanks Rich

Here's a link to Paul's photo....

Note his comment about no room at the back of the engine.

Seems Vern’s set up is for a left side linkage. I’m running 3-97s with right side linkage??? I’m seeking a idea here myself on a 30 5W AV8
