Old Model A Picture
 

Here's an old photo found in some of my uncle's stuff. What's interesting to me is the note on the back. "Charlie's Ford at Rocky Neck State Park Conn 1946." I don't have any idea who Charlie was but this 30 A looks pretty good for being 16 years old especially after the "war years" when parts and supplies were hard to come by.

Is it just my old eyes or does Charlie's 1930 Briggs Town Sedan have 16" wheels and tires on the rear, but 19" on the front? The hubcaps look larger on the back wheels. 'Could just be a optical illusion caused by reflection. The car looks pretty darned good for being 16 years old and surviving the WWII scrap metal drives that claimed so many of our beloved Model T's and to a lesser degree, Model A's.

Could be replacement wheels and tires. During the war years you used whatever you could get. I remember my Dad had a Model A roadster, with a V8 in it, that he sold because the tires were worn and he was afraid if one blew he would not be able to find another. He also scrapped a 36 Graham around the same time because the water pump went bad and parts weren't available. Tough times that ate up a lot of good cars that we would love to have today but it was all worth it to save our freedom.

Yes. People have no idea what people had to do to keep their car on the road. Plus there was still not a lot of cash. Depression held on a long time.

Bad times indeed during the war. I wasn't born yet but my Parents often talked about the rationing. Gas was in limited supply. Shortages on everything...copper was so much in demand that they made pennies out of zinc for a couple years. I have a few. People today are spoiled compared to what our Parents went through just to get by. What would they do without their Smartphone?

I know for a fact that before the depression and WW2, the older generation of the day said similar things about the younger one and look at how they rose to the occasion. As unlikely as it might seem, I think the youguns of today would also step up. At least, that's what I hope. There is nothing like a threat to your own home to unite a country into action. Even those divisive, conspiracy driven politicians we have around these days might even see the light. Hoping.

Burner31...You got me all misty eyed about memories. Here's my Grand Parents about 1927. My Dad is the baby in my Grandmother's lap. Tough times, but nice memories because they had little money, but they had each other.

A very common state of affairs in those days. The young ones today have more than they need and don't appreciate it, IMO.

I think you are correct Synchro. Thank goodness the youngsters of today don't know what rough times are. The little blonde girl sitting on the running board in the picture was their first born. My Grandmother gave birth to her under a shade tree because they were traveling picking orchards. A family passing by offered to take the baby "Off Their Hands" being bad times, my Grandmother said NO. They ended up raising 8 kids and had a good life.

In Post 14, I showed a photo of my Grand Fathers 1929 Ford Model A Briggs Body Sedan.
I am surprised that no-one commented on the fact that this vehicle had three side windows not two?
Because of the wood in the body, it started to rot, so my Grand Father had to do some repairs.
I believe that he used the rear section of a sedan that he located in a wrecking yard.
This picture shows the car during repairs. This was way before my time, so I have no idea if the car survived?
So that explains why this Briggs Body Sedan has six side windows and not four.

Okay - since someone broke the GM wall with a photo here's my dad in his mom's new Chevy Coupe. That's her an unknown Sport Coupe and earlier with the family T at her sister's farm. The last one is also the T my dad is the one in the wheel barrel - it's dated 1917. I suspect the problems they had getting parts to keep the Fordson tractor running led to her defection to the Chevy. My dad's step dad specialized in keeping Chevys running.

That's was my Mom, she is in the last pic too, with the T-bird, I remember that car fondly.
The girl sitting on the '57 Chevy became my wife, (pic taken in '75)

I love all these old photos. Burner31, the '57 looks so much better in black, makes the chrome stand out. When I was a teen, I had a '70 Camaro R.S. much like the one in the picture of the '57 Chevy and your future wife. I wish I still had it. I sold it to my sister. She let her boyfriend drive it and he was backing up to a pump at a gas station with the driver door open and ripped the door clean off on a bollard. Broke my heart. She ended up marrying the idiot, that broke my heart too (didn't last).

ModelA29, tearing the wall a bit more, here is my dad as a College Man with his mid-30s Chevy. Taken late '40s at Wofford College.
