Hello restoring 36 pickup bed and was wondering if there is supposed to be wood inside the back channel where tailgate hinges mount to thanks

No, it is not supported with wood.....only a u-Chanel forming a “box” when it is spot welded to the bed floor.

There are wooden blocks that mount under the bed, at each corner at the back, but nothing else.
