‘26 Roadster
 

Hello, first a bit about me. New here, but not to the Barn. I was over on the A side for some time. I retired a bit ago and sold off my A and way too much collected parts, everything except most of my shop, bought an RV and am traveling the country for a while.

While we travel we are looking for our next house to live in for the subsequent chapter and it will have a shop for me to fill.

So I bought a ‘26 Roadster to have my next project waiting for me. It is being moved into storage next week.

It runs well, actually very well. Has not been restored, but has been “fixed up”.

It needs upholstery, and is missing a few things that I will gather over the next year or so and have waiting for me when I land somewhere.

It has a Water pump, and a distributor. The current owner does not know when or why it was converted.

I think I would like to remove the distributor and restore that end of it. I think the buzz and coils are a required part of the charm.

I am looking for thoughts, advice and a list of parts that I should be acquiring to convert it back to Mag and coil.

Nice car! You should be able to sell the distributor setup for enough money to do the change back to multi-coil. I would drive the car as is for a while before changing things just so you will have a good basis for a comparison. before you change make sure the magneto is up to snuff because that is the power that makes a T run well.

Yes, always good advice to know EXACTLY what you have before you modify it, if it is not destined for a complete teardown. This one will stay pretty much the way it is other than upholstery, I have the bows and irons for the top so I will put it on top on it.

I will order a Magneto Meter to test the magneto first.

Looking for a list of components and wiring diagram for the conversion.

Thanks. It is being picked up and transported to heated storage for the winter. As soon as we buy another house and come off the road I will start to work on it. Gives me something to look forward to when we settle in somewhere.

You will only need to use the AC function on a volt/ohm meter to see if the mag puts out good or any voltage. They can put out more than 30V AC. That (hot spark), and the fact that the coils will last twice as long running on the mag is icing on the cake!

I've only had an 'A' since this May and don't have a Model T, but to me that body looks like a fiberglass body. I could be wrong......

I hope so, too! Just an observation from miles away. I am looking at possibly getting a '27 Roadster, myself. I'm just plagued with the issue of where to put it.....

I can’t swear it hasn’t had any repairs done to it, and those repairs could have fuzzed the body lines. I haven’t actually seen it yet. I bought it, sent somebody to look at it, they sent me pretty good detail pictures, and then I bought it and moved it right into storage. It was priced so that I couldn’t pass it up pretty much regardless of what I found when I get my hands on it.

I sold my house a while ago and we’ve been touring the country in an RV currently wintering in Arizona. Will be closing on another house with a heated shop very shortly. I’ll have it transporter there and be working on it by late spring.

Looks like a fun project! Much luck to you! Someone else besides me will be more helpful with your 'T' questions than me. Maybe I'll find room to get one myself!
