Motor Paint color ? what color motor paint, should I use on my 1928 Sport Coupe ?
|
Re: Motor Paint color ? That would be Ford engine green. There is some variation to the color depending on which vendor you go through. There is also debate as to which vendor is the closest to correct. My advice would be pick one vendor and go with it. I've used Brattons rattle cans in the past and it works well. Smells terrible but looks good.
Block, head, water inlet and outlet, flywheel housing, bell housing, transmission, tower, and rear bearing retainer all get the same color. |

Re: Motor Paint color ? Brattons; Does NOT have Engine Green in spray cans any more, only brush type.
|
Re: Motor Paint color ? I used brush. Looks pretty good on cast iron and you don't have to worry about the rattle can clogging up etc.,.

Re: Motor Paint color ? Ryan forgot intake manifold and engine crank pulley

Re: Motor Paint color ? I have always had better luck with brush than spray. Read the judging standards for which parts are Ford engine green and which are black.

Re: Motor Paint color ? I had leftover in a spraycan and used it on my new mailbox.

Re: Motor Paint color ? I use Pioneer antique Ford Engine paint ( green)
Available on Amazon. Same paint some of the suppliers used to use, not sure why they don't anymore |

I knew there was going to be something I missed :D Good catch. I see the can from Bratton's comes from Bill Hirsch. I've heard nothing but good things about that paint. The only reason I buy rattle cans is that I've never had enough to paint where I needed a big can. |
Re: Motor Paint color ? From Brattons on last Fridays Phone call, They can not get it any more from the Co. that made it for them and others because of a Hurricane, as all mixtures to make it were lost.. And that was there supplier, Bill Hirsch..

Re: Motor Paint color ? Worth remembering that originally the paint was applied pretty lightly. Here's a good thread on it from last year with some pictures.

Re: Motor Paint color ? I wonder if Ford painted head nuts and studs when the engines were painted ?

Re: Motor Paint color ? Quote:
I mix my own engine paint to get a almost exact match out of the color book. |

Re: Motor Paint color ? I just had an engine rebuilt by Schwalms. They use Bill Hirsch paint and have for years with good experience. Engine looks great!!

Re: Motor Paint color ? I paint my engine block and head separately . I then put the engine together and install new cadmium-zinc plated head nuts . I figure that Ford didn't mask attaching nuts , bolts and studs , it probably would have taken too much time . The plated nuts add detail to the engine . .

Re: Motor Paint color ? Following the link to Dave Lopes Fordor, post #12 states that the castings were painted before machining. That would mean the nuts and studs are unpainted.
|
Re: Motor Paint color ? Thanks Ryan , I have often wondered about that .
