Finally got the old gal home...

Been waiting since October to be able to get this out of the barn it has been hiding in. Now it's gonna be time to see if she will come back to life without to much coaxing.

What a great old 1937 Ford Fire Truck. What is the Mileage? Probably a low mileage example, as most of these old Ford Trucks are.

Re: Finally got the old gal home...

47,000 miles...What's kind of interesting is that the firewall and some of the hidden panels have a sort of OD green paint on them. But the pumper unit has Property of US Gov't OCD (Office of Civil Defense) with a date of 1943 on the tag. Under the red paint you can see a darker blue like was used on the OCD vehicles of the time. I'm kind of surmising that it was maybe an Army truck to begin with and then with the war it was converted to a fire pumper for OCD than later surplussed out to the county Fire Dept. The pumper unit is completely self contained...as in it has its own flathead inline 6 that powers it. It sits crosswise in the box behind the cab. The truck ran 6 years ago and was driven into the barn where I got it from.

Not that it's any particular problem, but likely an engine has been swapped....that's a 24 stud.

Re: Finally got the old gal home...

snappy, what brand of fire pump is in it? Looks like maybe a Hale. How many GPM? And what brand of engine powers it?
I would say from the photos that it is a home made conversion as the water tank is not integral to the body as are custom fire engines, as well as other items such as the pump engine and it's location.. Very cool truck!!

Re: Finally got the old gal home...

If that is a Ford 6 for the pump, that would date 41 of later for the pump unit.

All good questions...and comments! Not sure about the make of the inline 6 but the data plate on the pumper unit says 2-25-1943. Yes it is a Hale pump...but the whole unit is branded Twin Coach. Here's a few more pics...you guys tell me what I have!

I think you are dead on the money Bob...good find! I need to pull the coil and clean up the area of the block that has the ID data for it and see what the motor actually is. Got a feeling it will be an industrial.
