rumble lid hinges I have 2 sets of rumble lid hinges that look the same. Is there a way to visually tell originals from repos?

Re: rumble lid hinges Yes it is simple.
The repros are just cast copies of the originals. They are smaller in every dimension. If you fit them to al lid they just do not lay in at ALL! The originals have very clear part numbers cast on them. The originals feel like they would almost work without screws when you place them on a good original lid. The repros just do not feel like they belong. Without a lid handy, just look at the surface that mates with the lid and the countersink. They will be rough cast not nice and clean. The mating surface will be uneven and rough. Trust me, put original and a repro side by side once and you will forever be able to tell the difference. |
Re: rumble lid hinges Glenn,
There is a difference between 28-29 and 30-31. Just as there is a difference in the lids. What do you think you have? |
Re: rumble lid hinges Dudley,
Do you have pictures of both styles? I guess I thought 28/29 and 30/31 hinges were the same. I would like to see the differences. Rusty Nelson |
Re: rumble lid hinges The hinges are the same. There are variations in the design. I have a set with stamped steel part that fit the lid.
The lids are almost identical. The differences are only for where the latch fit. See my website for pictures. |
Re: rumble lid hinges 4 Attachment(s)
Kevin is correct, I used a poor choice of words for the description.
The first 2 photos are the 28-29, the part number is visible in the second. The second set is 30-31, with the part number in the second. |
