For Marco Tahtaras: loctite molding Marco, I have a 60 A like Steve Ciccalone's car. I want to use the same color scheme - Rose beige and brown top. I can't find a brown molding in the parts cataloques. I read in an archived post that you said you made such moldings. Are you still able to do it or do you know another source? Thanks Bill G

Re: For Marco Tahtaras: loctite molding I haven't done tops and interiors in years due to other priorities. The Loctite binding I made was hand made including making the rubber core in molds. The expense would make most folks cringe. I only did it for complete projects that really needed it.
I've heard there was someone that makes some that's pretty nice but I don't know who that is. Below is a 400-A I did 22 years ago. http://abarnyard.com/corral/images/400a-6.jpg http://abarnyard.com/corral/images/400a-7.jpg |

Re: For Marco Tahtaras: loctite molding Marco, I am going to try to make this molding myself. Is there a drawing showing the construction available or could I get a sample - maybe 1 or 2 inches long to study? Bill G

Re: For Marco Tahtaras: loctite molding There was some discussion on the Cabriolet website a long time ago.
I believe Bill Strum had made some up at one time. The last of it was used up when I called about it (I believe Arlyn got it for his wonderfully restored cabriolet). I am not doing a show car so I will not go through the added expense of making my own. The reason for the loctite is the offsetting. Normal binding is nailed to the center so it equally covers the area. Loctite is offset so it can cover more towards the bottom. This hides more area of interface. As I understand it the loctite is prone to flipping over and the covering flap needs to be glued down. Go to Bob's, currently way under used, cabriolet forum and you can do some searches. Here are a couple of interesting links I found. Welting on cabriolet website Pictures of samples http://cabriolet.modelahouse.com/tech/welt.html http://cabriolet.modelahouse.com/tech/welt.html |
Re: For Marco Tahtaras: loctite molding I looked up the article on the cabriolet website and it looks like the hardest part will be getting the proper end fittings for loctite molding. They are not symetrical because the molding is not symetrical.
