Tube shock conversion for 1940 2 dr
 

I have a '40 2 dr with stock suspension with exception of 4" dropped axle. Stock shocks are worn out. I'm told Pete & Jakes and Chassis Engineering both make a front conversion that are different, but haven't heard which is better. Also want to convert the rear, but don't want to weld some street roddie brackets on the housing. Anyone make a good bolt in rear kit? I am new to this and figure there is a wealth of info out there with you guys.
Any help appreciated!

I bought the Chassis Eng'rg. kit for my '40 Sedan. Bolted the brackets on and had a local guy attach the shocks. The ride is "great" ! Big difference in handling and then I installed Coker 6:00 radials. It's well worth it. On the rear I already had new style shocks installed, so I can't help you there other than try to see what model they are. They have been on for many-many years !

I use mostly CE stuff, but Pete and Jakes front kit is also good. I have that kit on the front of my 40. On the rear you can use the bolt on brackets from Pure Hot Rods. The lower brackets bolt to your axle housings/backing plates. They sell them here on the V-8 swap site. Not sure what they have for upper brackets, but I would buy some upper brackets from CE. I would not use a single stud mounting through the crossmember. Seems like a recipe for a crack in the crossmember.

WHAT BRAND & MODEL OF SHOCK IS ON THE FRONT & REAR. MY CAR HAS THE CONVERSION BUT THE SHOCKS NEED TO BE REPLACED. GABRIEL DOES NOT HAVE PART # 778 & 603 ANY LONGER. THANK YOU MIKE READY

I go to a NAPA guy who can look up any shock size. He needs to know the weight on distance between the shock mounting studs and how much travel you want up and down. Two inches each way is pretty good.

These gabriel numbers are useful if you have 5/8 eyes top and bottom.
