Alignment Camber Problem Newbe here. Recently purchased a 29 Pick-up and the RF wheel is clearly miss-aligned. Looking from the front, the top of the wheel is leaning to the outside of the vehicle and tire wear is much more prominent on the outside edge of the tire. The left front wheel looks normal and tire wear is even.
The vehicle handles and drives fine, but obviously I have a problem. The books I have tell me how to adjust toe-in and caster, but camber seems to be fixed (?). Any suggestions as to what I should look for to correct this problem. Bearings seem OK. Thanks in advance |
Re: Alignment Camber Problem My first thought is a bent axle.

Re: Alignment Camber Problem I agree with Rich, you probable have an axel that is bent at the problem end. This is not uncommon problem as hitting chuck holes and curbs over the years often effects the axel.

Re: Alignment Camber Problem The axle can be straightened, make sure you give the shop the proper data from new.

Re: Alignment Camber Problem Great information on Kevin's web site. Discovered my axle was bent back on the right side with the bend to the left of the spring perch. Armed with the information and measuring tools from Kevin's site, I took it to my machinist who used an 80-100 ton press to bend it back to specification. Cost me $80.

Re: Alignment Camber Problem A large truck or spring facility, or front end shop can probably 'form" it on the car w/out dis-assembly.

Re: Alignment Camber Problem I had one once like that and it was a bent spindle probably from slamming a curb sideways at some time. I would say to check the spindle first, if ok then I would look for a good axle. I bought a nice axle awhile ago for $30.

Re: Alignment Camber Problem Thank you all.
If I am looking for a replacement axle, what shall I look for? Are all axles (except AA) the same? Are they stamped for identification? |
Re: Alignment Camber Problem I had the same problem on a early 28 roadster pick up, and it was a bent spindle.
