I got this for free, had it recored and finished, but it is wrong for my 39. Can anyone tell me what it goes to so I can list it and maybe get some of my refurb money back?

Thanks!

It does look like a '37. I will compare it to a '37 radiator I have. It most likley could be a service replacement type of the period.

Re: Can anyone identify this radiator?

It is too narrow where it mounts to the frame and the hose connections are not under the tank overhang. Are ‘38 and ‘39 different from ‘37?

Re: Can anyone identify this radiator?

1939 Is completely different. More square and split core. Deluxe anyway!!! Not sure about Standard?? AND you would also have to specify 38 Standard or 38 Deluxe

Re: Can anyone identify this radiator?

Robert is correct about the split core for '39. Not so say that the core was replaced and a split core was not used. It might fit a '38. It sure looks like a '37 to me though.

Look how the intlet necks on the top tank angle towards the center of the heads. If they were under the tank they would be more straight down for water pumps on the heads. This radiator suggests water pumps on the block and water inlets on the center of the heads. That puts it at 1937-1938 in my opinion. The small brackets on the sides of the straps at the top are where the hood sides attach. It also has the side air deflectors like a '37 radiator. There would be a center air deflector mounted to the grille on a '37. That part keeps you from seeing through the grille from side to side. Often missing and mostly for looks.

Can you show us a photo of the number that is molded into the top tank?

What about 60HP?? They are narrower.

Not 39 standard. At least it doesn't appear to be.

Does the top tank have any embossments upon it?

Looks like there is one in the photos, I just can't make it out.

Shure looks like a 60 hp to me. The tank hangs over the front on them.

The attached picture is the only one I have that depicts a '39 standard 60HP radiator.
The other photo is a '39 standard 85HP.

The embossment says D4

Ah, just measured the core at based on all your wonderful help, it seems to be a ‘37 radiator for a 60 hp. Well, at least I can list it properly.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Can anyone identify this radiator?

Visible on the inner side of the top tank is the identifier D4. This is a 1938-1939 60 hp 82A-08005-A2 McCord design with core 74-8005-D4: From the 1938-39 Ford Book published by the EFV8CA page 4-3.

Jim you were right on. I just looked at the photo again this morning and noticed the tank hanging over the front instead of the rear. Good eye!

I don't think it is a 37 V8 60 truck radiator.
I restored a 37 Ford 85 HP pickup in the early 1960's. I was sold a NOS radiator that had wider side mounting fins and the fill neck was spaced forward on the tank. I was told the radiator was a "desert, high capacity option". I did not note that the upper and lower tubes were smaller than an 85 hp radiator when the I bought the radiator.
The radiator fit the chassis perfectly, however the shell would not fit onto the radiator.
I still have the radiator hanging in my garage. Pix attached.
