dome light question

Did the 1928-29 Model A have a fancy dome light option with a floral design on it?

Re: dome light question

Coupes and Tudors had round lighs, Town Sedan had oval. They did not have a filegre(sp) on them.

I might be wrong but I don't beleive any A had a design in the metal on the dome light.

The only reason I am asking is I just bought one that looks just like one for the model a but has the flower design on it. These pictures are'nt the best, I will have a better look once I get it.

I bought one just like your picture at the Pate Swap Meet last year. It is supposedly (sp) for a 30 or 31 Town Sedan. I am putting it in my 31 S/W and will get around to it maybe next week.

Re: dome light question

Is the decorative bezel fixed to the base, and just the glass lens being removable,
or does the bezel and glass come off as an assembly?

My car has just the base. Why oh why can't somebody reproduce the lens????? :-(

Thanks for the explanation. In one of the photos, you can just see the solder.

The dome light with the oval bezal, shown in your picture on the left, and on the right, are typical for the Briggs Body Fordor. If I am not mistaken, the Tudor used a round dome light.
I believe the floral bezal would have been used on a town sedan.

My 29 tudor sedan has no dome light. Can someone show me a photo of what I should have and where do you route the wiring and switch?

Re: dome light question

On the round dome light the switch is on the housing itself.

Only '31 Deluxe Tudor's had a dome light. Otherwise no Tudor had them.

My 30 Briggs T.S. manufactured 6/6 30, has a plain oval bezel. No filagree. It's brass with the steel back plate soldered together, just as discribed above.

Check Area 12 of the Judging Standards, pages 12-6 & 12-7.

There are five different styles of dome lights listed. None of the dome light bezels used during production had filigree. There is a chart that lists the various dome light bezels along with the body styles for each.

A filigree bezel may look spifffy, it just won't be correct. So if the one you have fits go for it. A filigree bezel will give folks one more item to talk about.

Does anyone know where this light may have come from if not from a Model A? I got it the other day here is a picture of it next to a original A light they almost exact but the filigree.

For what it's worth, as long as you have it all apart, when you install the light, solder a small .01 200v radio capacitor from the bulb socket base to ground. Also put one across the switch.
If you ever put an AM radio in the car you will be glad you did.
This helps cut ignition noise down.

I have a late 30 Briggs Town Car and an early 30 Murray Town Car and both have a plain oval bezel without any floral design. But the ones pictured above do look really nice.
