Thank you Ford Barn - My 33
 

Just wanted a quick shout out of thanks to Ryan et al and all those before him. Just purchased this 33 from an ad here. Stoked to say the least. Comes with a 35 motor/box/diff etc that are out of the car as the original motor, box and brakes are missing. Only planned up grade immeadiately is juice brakes. I wont have it in my own shed for a few months so plenty of time to plan but think it will just get it together and running. Thanks again.

Thanks guys, will I need a different drive shaft to run from the 35 box to the 33 diff?

You will need a 33 trans mount on your 35 Box and everything else will bolt together. The torque tube an drive shaft will fit right up as long as your car originally had a V-8 Engine and not a 4 Cyl. If your car was a 4 Cyl. Car, the drive shaft and torque tube will be Apx. 1 1/2" too long. There is an ongoing Thread on The Barn on this subject.

If you let us know the overall lingth of your torque tube, (Front end of bell to flange, where it bolts to the center housing of the rear axle) we can tell if it is a V-8 or 4 cyl.

As far as Hydraulic Brakes are concerned, you need to get in touch with Richard at The Early V-8 Garage. (626) 338-2282. He makes a complete kit to install Hydraulic Brakes on your Early V-8 Ford. I have his kit on my '34 and it is really great. He can supply every part you will need.

Thanks for the info as it so happens got in touch with Richard this morning, love the search function on here. :)

Sadly the car does not come with the original Torque tube so is there any other way of knowing if the car was originally a V8 or not? I guess in a way it wont matter as long as I source a V8 torque tube and driveshaft? If thats the case how long should these be so I can ensure we source the correct one?

A really nice car.

Just for the record, the fourcylinder propshaft is the short one. (around 45mm 1 1/2")

The reason for this is that the fourcylinder engine have bigger cylinderdiameter, causing it to be longer then the V8. And the 33-34 dont have a big engine room

Its handled by shorter propshaft and turning the gearbox mount 180 degrees.

Forever4 amd Mr 42 thanks. Will go look at that link now. I'll ask the seller as its still at his place until my $ hit his bank account. BTW do you mean looking from the front of the car or rear mate. Us Aussies are sometimes ass about lol.

I know Im getting ahead of myself with this but Im so excited. So much so only got about 5 hours sleep last night.

Sorry for another question but if you look in the second last pic you can see the floor of the trailer. Was there originally a panel there or wood with a small panel over the gearbox?

Another hint could be the Vin number, The V8 starts with 18.
And the fourcylinder start's with B,
As i understand it.

I wouldn't slept one hour if i got a car like that ;-)

Its a V8!!! :) It keeps getting better and better. But boy am I tired!

Well I need to do some learning. Is there a good reference source on the net showing part diagrams, exploded views of different areas of the mechanical side, perhaps even a dealers cataloug etc etc. Getting books where I live is a little difficult.

Which company would be a reputable source of new engine and gearbox mounts? As will get the motor and box fitted for shipping.

Go to the Early Ford V8 site and order the 33-34 book . It will be a great source for you.
Also look at sites like Macs antique auto for parts.

This should have been "The 4 Cyl. Torque Tube is Apx. 1 1/2" too SHORT for a V-8 car.

The 4 Cyl. Engine is a little longer then the V-8 and they need to sit back in the chassis just a little to keep the fan from running into the radiator.

It must have been asleep when I wrote it. :confused:

The original style transmission covers are reproed. They have correct form and holes for shift and brake handle.

I used a 35 rear engine mount in my 34 I don.t think there is much difference except for the parking brake ,
