Here's a link to the blueprints, which locate the footrest.

On my 31 it is 2 inches to the right and 1 inch down I'm sure it is original

Re: foot rest location

I had to take out the foot rest on a RHD car.

Real uncomfortable and awkward.

I wonder what the reasoning is behind a rest anyway.

No modern car has them.

Did a 32 or later even have them?

Actually, I think they kinda do. Most modern stamped steel floorpans are lower in the pedal area and raised next to it. Just no obvious add-on part as found on a flat wood board.

Re: foot rest location

you guys have come through again thanks tom. I watched a video that recommended keeping your foot on the rest and pressing the gas pedal with the side of your foot. I must have a heavy foot or weak return spring cause its pedal to the metal without the rest. to bubba im in Fayetteville, texas.

Re: foot rest location

you could also install the front rubber matt ,and use the matt to locate the exacts spot. Draw a circle with a pencil ON YOUR NEW WOOD FLOOR then you will have the exact center spot for your foot rest.

Re: foot rest location

thanks henry, im building a 28-29-30-31 model a speedster/roadster/pickup old school. mechanical brakes, 6 volt four cyl. the only modifications are a dropped front axle, split wishbones and kicking up the rear frame 4 inches. going to run 15" ford wheels and get her LOW to the ground.I have parts from at least 10 A's and a a couple of T's. a new rubber floor mat would stick out like crazy. if some one wants to donate a worn out mat that would be cool.

I drove my 32 the first time with out it. every bump bounced my food up or down on the gas. Looked like a new driver. When I had the new floor and footrest installed it drove nice and smooth over the same bumps. (yes a 32 has them)

I'm glad Jim mentioned that. I forgot to come back on last night to give my thoughts on the reason for the foot rest, but I believe in the days of dirt and gravel roads it might be real handy. I almost never use mine, but don't mind it being mounted where it is, and as Jim said, it comes in handy on rough roads.

Tom, I'd bet that if you removed yours you would discover you had been using it far more than you thought. I feel the same as you but I'm on 'autopilot' once I sit in a Model A. I don't notice what I do but sure notice when something isn't right!

I agree on this. It does help. But when I want to put the "Peddle to the metal(floor boards)", I take my foot off the rest because it is easer to get the gas peddle down enough to get the speed I want.

Maybe a stupid question, but have you played with the height of the rest? I think mine is about half way between throttle full up and down. I can say for sure that if you went for a ride with me you would see full use of the throttle. :D

Marco, I think I have it screwed down as far at it will go until it hits the floor board. I'll have to check that. I may have an aftermarket rest that does not go down far enough. Could be also my long legs make it hard to bend my foot enough to get it full down. Thanks for the suggestion.

There should be a small hole through the floorboard for the shaft of the rest to go through until it runs out of threads.

I took mine out. It was always unscrewing itself and falling off anyways. Haven't missed it since!

Re: foot rest location

Jordan, I believe there is supposed to be a stop nut on the threads that you tighten down on the floor flange to lock the height.

Yep! That's the way I plan on doing it when I order my foot rest.

Re: foot rest location

Thanks Marco, I had thought about doing that. But right now it is going to have to wait till spring, to cold around here.

There should be a stop nut on the shaft. Guess I know that much about it.

My huckster has a foot rest that I had saved all these years since I was in high school back in the 50's. It has one side worn off on the rubber part. I got it from a junk yard back in those days and it had come from a wreaked Model A. So that one, I think is original.
