Temperature at heads vs radiator top tank
 

I've been checking my temperature gauge and senders. Have an accurate temperature meter temporarily installed in the radiator top tank but don't have extra outlets in the heads to use for testing. Was hoping some of you with laser meters could check the temps at the outlet of the heads and the top tank of the radiator to see how much they vary. The attached picture shows my setup; the pipes are aluminum so I may be loosing some heat there.

don't know about your temps, but i would like to compliment you on:
(1) triple 97s
(2) fan shroud
(3) fan blade
(4) upper hoses and connecting pipes
you put a lot of thought into your build and it shows. congrats...jack

I have seen no more than a couple degrees drop from the head to the radiator top tank. Note that this is after the thermostats open.

I am confused. The temperature from the head to the radiator tank should be pretty close. The coolant goes into the engine a the bottom of the engine and comes out through the head. The temperature difference between the left side of the engine and the right side of the engine would be more of an interest to me.

What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to see how much your aluminum pipes cooling the coolant.

Sturgis you got it right.The temperature just below the hoses on the neck of 37 to 48's and on 32 to 36 on the buldge of the heads right behind the pumps. The coolant in the tank is a mixture of both sides of the engine. If one side is running hotter you can't tell by the radiator temperature. G.M.

I'm trying to see how accurate my temperature gauge is, or actually how far off it is as I see quite a difference between the gauge readings (have two senders switch selectable for reading each side) and the temperature at the top tank of the radiator.

AHHH I ran my Tank in a parade 2 weeks ago it was 87 degress outside the Engine never got Higher than 150 degrees and thats at a 3 mile parade going less than 5mph and at Idle, Reason a BIGGER rad (new) and a 7 blade Cobra fan, This sucker almost sucker me in!

I don't have a laser temp meter. I use a DVM with a thermocouple input. On a 59A I see the temp about 10° warmer on the right side. The top of the rad runs a couple of degrees below the right side temp.

I have a 8ba and running at 190 degs with new electric gauge.
Somthing that i have been wanting to try is put a sending unit on the water pump outlet.My new water pumps have them on both side.So My guess is you want cooler water out of raditor.
