1956 Ford "Country Sedan" Wagon "Thunderbird Edition"

City: La Habra
State: CA
Price: $

@@@@@ SOLD SOLD SOLD @@@@@@@

1956 Ford "Country Sedan" 4 door Wagon.
$7,000.00

"Thunderbird" 292 Y-block / 3 speed / Overdrive.
Came from the factory with "Thunderbird" badges and "Thunderbird" valve covers (1956 T-bird came with the same 312 motor).
I have put "MERCURY" valve covers on it, but I still have the original "T-bird" ones.
60 / 40 second seat and articulating rear license plate, the plate flips down and shows even if you are driving with the tailgate open.

New stuff:

4 New "Firestone" tires (5k miles).
New front shocks and rear air shocks (10k).
New brake shoes, new wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new rubber hydraulic brake lines (5k).
40k miles on rebuilt motor.
10k miles on updated heads, new valves, hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel.
10k miles on clutch.
Transmissionwas just rebuilt about 100 miles ago. New berings, synchros and planetaries. Nice and quiet now.
Completely rebuilt front end, bushings, balls, rod ends, everything new) (5k ago)
Overdrive works like a champ.
Edelbrock carb.
Water pump, hoses and belts (10k)
Dual exhaust with glass packs, sounds quiet but throaty.
Just had original radiator rodded out, re-painted.
Brand new heater core, heater and defroster kick butt.
New battery, Generator and Voltage regulator (5k miles)
Rebuilt Speedometer and new speedometer cable (5k miles).
Electric wiper conversion which uses original switch (kit was $350 bucks), was professionally installed.
Brand New U-Joints
Other than the clock, everything on the dash works, all lites, dome light, horn, AM radio (once it warms up)
Has the original 3rd seat in the car.
Car is lowered, front springs were heated and has 3" blocks in the rear. Could be put back to stock with new front springs and removing the blocks in the rear. Can load with passengers with air in the shocks.

The bad:

Body has rust in the usual places, front and rear quarters, tailgate and roof corners.
Interior is usable but shot. Headliner is ripped and stained.
Steering is sloppy, I thought the rebuilt front end would have cured that but the steering box must be worn.

Great Car

This car is VERY presentable and turns heads wherever it goes. It can be used just as it is or could also be cosmetically restored (Paint, chrome and interior).
It is very complete.
The body is very straight.
Mechanically solid, all the mechanical stuff is finished.
I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, even cross country.
I wouldn't hesitate to sell it to a friend, it is a great car.

Located in La Habra, CA.

Hi, that engine may be a 292 or a 312. If it's the original one, the vin# will tell the truth. If it starts with 'M' it's a 292, but 312 starts with 'P'

Great info. As long as I have owned this car I believed it was a 312.

I just checked the vin and it starts with an "M".

Did the t-birds come with both sizes also ??

My dad bought a new 56 with standard 3 speed. They came with 292 c.i., you could get 312 in automatics only.

I've sure seen lots of 56 312s with standard 3 speeds.

This is what the Ford dealer told him. Maybe it was a early production thing, or maybe all others have been changed over the past 55 years.

Very Cool Car. Would you consider a trade + $ for your car. I have a 50 Ford Custom Delux with a 95 Lincoln Mark 8 Dohc 32 valve engine and trans ( not installed ).
