1935 Ford Wrecker
 

Newbie has a few questions on a Ford 1 1/2 ton wrecker.

I first posted this on the H.A.M.B.

Truck is titled (VIN on frame matches title) as a 1935 Ford Truck
I was told it was a 1936 Cab but best I could tell its a 1935 cab.

From another source the Frame shows 1934

Radiator Shell/Grille 1936

1934 Fenders which do not fit cab properly obviously an add on.

On Frame: BBI8-1148058 & that matches title that says 1935
Flattie which I was told is original but have not checked for number on bell is a 21 stud engine with water pumps on head. The 80yr old guy told me 10k which I thought was WAY steep for the condition and mis-match of parts. He told me to make a offer I said 2500.00 he said no way. I have been looking for a nice 35-36 truck for quite some time and this one is in town but of course do not want to over pay. After closer inspection its not as nice as my initial impression.

So can anyone break down the VIN for me? Does everyone agree its a 1935 cab and 1934 fenders and a 1936 Grille Shell? Anything else that sticks out?

Wrecker is a weaver auto crane.

i paid a little more for my 36 pickup, and it ran, drove and stooped i see big trucks on e bay for a lot less

I thought the BB on the serial no. ment 4 cyl. B engine. Walt

I thought the BB was just 1 1/2 ton and the 18 designated the V-8. Trying to learn thats why I am asking...

The 10k asking is way out of line for the truck in my book. I would be far better off buying a Super nice original or a nice restored truck. A nice original would be 1st on list but so far no luck finding one. Still working on the wrecker but we are sooo far apart on the price right now.

In order by choice

1) 1936 1 1/2 Ton

2) 1935 1 1/2 Ton

3) 1936 Pickup

4) 1935 Pickup

Your cab is an early 35 cab. Sharp angle where A pillar meets cowl. This was changed to a gentle curve sometime about mid year in 35 and continued on through 36. Further it has removable garnish moldings on the doors which makes it early 35. Yes, it appears to have a 36 grill and, I think, 34 fenders. His price seems high to me, but then I am not into big trucks. My 2¢.

The headlights look like aftermarket Guides.I agree I think he is way high on the price.I believe the BB in the vin means 1 1/2 ton chassis.

A 1935/6 restored (and quite nice) big truck was passed in on ebay yesterday with no bids. The asking price $6,900.00

I very nearly bought an original 1935 big truck (from somewhere in America) a little while ago. It was a retired Fire Dept truck original and well maintained in every way with just over 50,000 miles on the clock. The selling price was $7,500.00.

Three months ago I saw a '35' wrecker complete but not running (in need of total restoration) sold for $900.00 in California.

To my mind what you are looking at there is not worth the money you have offered.

To take that truck on you will spend at least $8,000.00 assuming you do most of the work yourself. When finished you would have a nice truck no doubt but you will have spent more than it worth. From time-to-time some of us do these crazy things, and it's never a good idea.

where are you located I was just told about a 35-36 wrecker that was for sale in the New Orleans area and am going to try and go look at it but if its the same one im going to pass. like the other post say the truck is not worth 10 K and I I wouldn't pay 7k for it either. I don't want to waste any ones time or step on any one toes to get it.

The big trucks aren't commanding a big price. I bought my '34 dump for $3500. on the advice of my brother (a HAMBstr) who wanted the sheet metal and '38 V8 for a hot rod. I knew the previous owner well who had driven the truck when he was in high school. It had been sitting in a shed for close to 30 years. I brought it home, threw in a carb and fuel pump kit, new tune up parts and it started right up on a remote gas tank. I've even been driving it around town a bit. The back of the cab is a little beat up around the rear window - as most commercial trucks that have seen service will be but very little rust through (rare up here in the New England), mostly just at the back of the cab where it meets the body where debris had collected there over the years. I'm up to about $5,000. now with door window glass and parts, paint, new fluids and a few other things but getting nervous about the spend for new tires and any attempt to spruce up the interior as I don't really think the truck will even bring $10,000. in the condition I will be able to get it in even as a very mechanically sound driver. Maybe wreckers are harder to come by, but it would seem buying a semi-finished project after someone has already done the mechanical stuff may be a better route. At least you will be eliminating the big dollar spends if you can take it for a drive like motor, brake work, etc.

don't know if this helps but I just sold my running (guy drove it home) 1956 F-500 dump built for the army corp of engineers with extra heavy frame & running gear for $1,250.00. I thought about putting a wrecker A frame on it but I didn't.
On that mismatched one I'd run as fast as I could away from it. Bucket of worms
