'47 ford deluxe coupe questions, any photos?

I just bought a '47 business coupe, (the owner had told me it was a 46 but the vin is definitely '47). I am searching for a couple of hard to find items and/or some good photos. The parts I am most concerned with are the seat, package tray, and the rear quater pannel stainless. Putting this car back in its original condition is very important to me and I want to get it right the first time. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe:)

do you know if your car is a early 47, which looks like a 46, or a
regular 47. one way to know is the 46 and early 47 had parking
lights, which are rect. in shape, beside the headlights and 47 and
48 the parking lights are round and below the headlights, this makes
a big differance to know because all the mouldings, and other things
are differant between a early47 and a regular 47...hope this helps

Ernie,
Thanks for the reply.
It is a mid-year production according to the numbers we found on the frame and it has the round lights below the headlights. Would this make a difference on the seat if it were an early or late 47? Also, would an early 47 have the new tube shocks or was that put on later in the year as well? I have a '48 parts car and would like to use the tube shocks for improved drivability.

Still looking for the rear quarter pannel trim and a seat. Anyone with photos of the seat and/or package tray?

Thanks!:)

I think the seat in the Business Coupe is the same as the Club Coupe and Convertible, (the TuDor Sedan seat would have foot rest on the back), from '42 to '48. Also, I think tube shocks were an option (Dealer installed?) I don't know if Ford had a short and long door Coupe in '47 but I would expect that the rear quarter trim is the same as on the convertible.

The 46 Ford Sedan Coupe has the foot rest in the back of the front seat. They can be cut off. Also, the business coupe has a short door, and the sedan coupe has the long door, like the two door sedan. The door on the business coupe is the same as the door on the four door sedan.

The business coupe has a package tray and no back seat. The seat is like the seats in the earlier coupes which is a straight bench and the backrest flips up from the bottom . The business coupe has the short doors so the quarter trim is longer than the club coupe and the convertibles . To my knowledge no one is reproducing the long quarter trim for the business coupes . I had a good 47 business coupe a few years back with a 6 cyl.. wish I had it back.

The trim on an early 47 is grooved like a 46 also. I have an early production 46 Super Deluxe business coupe. Mine just has a package tray, no rear seat and the 1/4 widows are fixed. Is yours a Super Deluxe?

Re: '47 ford deluxe coupe questions, any photos?

You are correct from what I can ascertain. This is also known as the "short Door" coupe and the doors are the same as the four door. (I have a '48 four door to compare it to.) Back to the seat issue again...The sedan and convertibles have a split back bench seat. I believe the seat I need for my coupe is a solid back because passengers do not sit in the back and do not need access. I was told that the solid back hinged at the top and swung forward from the bottom up for access into the storage area behind the seat. There was also a package tray that extended from the top back edge of the seat to the rear under the window. I would gladly put a split bench seat in it if it were correct. They are mush easier to find.:)

As for the stainless rear quarter moldings...it is longer than a convertible or a sedan due to the short door. That's why I have to locate them. I have some of the moldings for the sedan already and they are definitely too short.

Still no photos?

The moldings would be very hard to obtain for 47/48 business coupes and to find them in good order would be harder than finding the same for the earlier ribbed 42/early 47 style as they are more prone to dents. A solution could be to take a long door pair and lengthen then with a strait piece which would be easier to find. There are people out there that can weld stainless and a join can be virtually undetectable. You'd need to shop around but specialist welder/fabricators could probably point you in the right direction.

Looks like that would be my best bet, ( have a piece welded to them) I had considered that but was hoping someone would know where to find a set. It's good to know it can be done. Thanks!

Any ideas on how to make a seat? I have a nice 4-door seat. Is it possible to modify this seat to use for my application?

i believe the '48 was the first to have the retro fit tube shocks, as my '47 has friction (but they'll fit). do you have some pics of the front shock set-up on your '48 frame?.

this is the only bus coupe pic i have for the seat/tray area (car i was going to look at). hope it helps....

Re: '47 ford deluxe coupe questions, any photos?

Thanks for the photo! That does help. I wonder if the top of the seat hinged just like the '47 trucks? This would be a simple thing to replicate.
I'll try to get a photo of the shocks as soon as I can. The car is in storage and it is very cold/snowy to be getting it out. (No lights in the storage area.) But, I'll try.
Thanks again for the picture.

Any more out there?

jsemple6392: I have an early 46 Deluxe bus cp. I got it from the wife of the original owner. The car is original, but restored. I will be glad to take some pictures of the seat. When you see the pictures you will understand how it works and know what parts to look for. Give me a couple of days. bloss@grnce,net
