Value of a 1912 Frame

I'm planning on selling a bunch of stuff at a swap meet this coming weekend. One of the items is a 1912 - 13 "T" frame (cast iron body mounts). What would be a reasonable asking price?

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

Is it just the bare frame without any other chassis parts?

Just the bare frame.

$150.00 to $350.00. Depends on the condition. Maybe up to $400.00 but it'll have to be pretty nice.

Thanks, garrisonm89. This gives me a good idea on the value.

If Dodge Brothers made it and there is a DB stamped in it it would be worth a bit more IMO.

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

Good point Roadster. So maybe he should put $450.00/OBO and listen to offers. Problem with this approach can be putting too much on it and not getting any offers. Maybe the OBO needs to be a lot bigger than the $450.00.

Condition is everything, wonder if the running board brackets are there and not bent up? Location is another thing, on the field at the Hershey swap meet it would be sold by lunch time on Wednesday. Bob

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

Well he's taking it to a swap meet but It ain't Hershey. And the value I gave him was a range that I thought he could consider when he decides what shape it is in. Maybe I could have not given him a low end but then he would recoup any money it cost him to get it to the swap meet. The fact it's an early frame with the cast body mounts doesn't mean anything to me but might to someone else. But looking at what's sold in the past, top dollar would be about $350.00 and anything more would be gravy.

I sold a 1911-12 frame for a torpedo bare for $1000 2 years ago.

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

Well there ya go. Now ya got some real direction. Maybe you should try to sell it for $1000.00. It's certain to go. It sounds like they're jumping off the shelves at that price. (sarc)

But then again if you do some research on the net you'll be able to recognize that most of the bare frames that have been selling are going for between $150.00 to $350.00.

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

If it is an early frame that is not all pitted and is still straight, without alot of extra holes in it, it is worth around 800.

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

Ok, now you've got a clear understanding of what your frame is worth. $150.00-$350.00 or $1000.00 or $800.00. Seems like it's a no-brainer to me. The answer is; don't ever ask what something is worth on this forum because it depends on the condition it's in, the year it was made, whether it has any special features to it, and what part of the country you live in. And even if you did a good job of answering those questions you'd still get every expert in the country and a lot of us that don't know squat giving you arbitrary answers that we'll all insist are right. Make up your own mind and sell it for whatever you want. If it doesn't sell try again.

Re: Value of a 1912 Frame

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I actually sold two frames, one of which did not have the cast iron mounts but had very solid steel crossmembers and side rails (required straightening) and the frame with the mounts (had been welded, deep rust and serious crossmember cracks). Buyer was happy ...seller was happy. That's what counts!

WELL? After all of the opinions what did someone actually pay for said frames. That is the best proof of value.

There's a frame for sale in Minneapolis on Craigslist for $150.00. I think it was on Minneapolis CL. But I'm starting to think it was Buy It Now on Epay. At any rate I saw it for $150.00
