Where to buy tires & tubes Where is the best price on tubes and white wall tires for a 39 ford?

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Years ago, I bought tires from Lesters as advertised in Hemmings. They were good tires.
Read about Universal tires and Lesters complaints here. Last set of bias tires I bought were from Coker. They were good. However, some folks complain about their tires being out of round. https://www.google.com/search?q=lest...hrome&ie=UTF-8 Lots of folks have opinions about Diamondback and Coker tires. Browse this thread. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-tires.154294/ |
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Coker/Universal are "under the same roof", recently just got Lesters for my T through Universal. Great tires and great sales/service.
10 years ago or so got my Coker classics for my 39, again 15,000 plus later and great tires and great sales experience as well for that. I will add almost everything from parts/sales and service are severely understaffed and doing the best with what they have and should be taken into consideration when dealing with things. Good luck and let us know how you make out. |
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Might try Lucas Tires in Long Beach, CA

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes I bought the whitewall radials for my 40 from Diamond Back

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Try Cooper. G.M.

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Also, who has GOOD innertubes for the Flathead era tires??
Bratton's on the Model A side are having tubes made out of fresh rubber and are very good quality. I don't know if the flathead era cars have any good inner tubes like the Model A has available? |
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes I put a set of Coker Classic radials on my '51 about 10 years ago. They balanced easily (the 185's on the front needed no weights and the 225's on the rear only took one or two). They have served me well since then, and will "age out" long before they wear out. They drive and handle considerably better than the bias ply Firestone re-pops I had on it previously.
BTW, they are tubeless, mounted on stock Ford wheels, and it is the only car I have that hasn't had a slow leak. |
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Coker owns many of the other tire companies........such as Universal.
due diligence. |
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Cooper ? I like their tires, but do they have 16" bias ply or just radials ?
|
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes ronn, Thanks for the "due diligence" tip.

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes I bought my tires through Speedway Motors because they ship for free. They currently carry Coker as well as Kelsey tires in the 6.00x16 standard size for my 1940.
|
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Coker has always been good to me.
|
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes Is say it depends on your desired driving.
I drive my tudor often and I like radials for the ride. For beating around town I bought a set thru European Classic 6.50 x 16 bias, best deal in town, 1/2 the price of radials. |
Re: Where to buy tires & tubes I bought my Diamondback wide white wall radials for my 39 Std through Discount Tire. Same price as buying direct from Diamond back but saved money on mounting and balancing, plus you get free flats fixed. Note on balancing 39 wheels you need the adapter.

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes I don't know about what's available in America, but down here in NZ, my local Goodyear dealer supplied 16" tractor tubes; these are heavy duty and have the large dia valve stems . I've found them to be trouble free installed in my radials.

Re: Where to buy tires & tubes I recently installed Diamond Back tubeless 6.00 R 16 whitewall tires. Look good, handle well, and ride good. They are radials!!
