64 Fairlane gas gauge

What can be wrong with my gas gauge in a 64 Fairlane T-Bolt clone. New tank and sender and Gauge voltage regulator on gauges. When you turn key on the gauge goes to half full if you lift the float it goes past full so I bent the float arm and it does the same thing? Now I bought a new sender and this one does the same thing? I even tried another 64 Fairlane gauge and a new gauge voltage regulator and it does the same thing??????? What could I be missing? Thanks Ron. [email protected]

Re: 64 Fairlane gas gauge

Just make sure you have an earth (ground) wire on the tank sender to the chassis. Sounds like your fuel gauge is trying to earth through the temp gauge circuit.
If this is not the problem from your description it could also be that your float arm is fouling on something in the tank.

Rick I have a ground from tank to frame and have tried with ground from the sender unit and it is still the same? Thanks for your reply. Ron.

Re: 64 Fairlane gas gauge

If the gauge works through its range out of the tank, and the float is not half full of gas, then I would suspect that the arm is too long and the float is hitting the underside of the tank.
