Rivet Installation / Air Hammer
 

I would like to replace the corner covers on my hood and the rubber parts that are riveted onto the hood.

I have this kit minus the yellow rivet tool.

What size air hammer would work with the rivet installation kit I have? Would this one work??

Would the yellow rivet tool from Brattons work for what I want to do? I am not sure it would be deep enough.

Bill, you are flirting with disaster using a pneumatic tool to set tubular rivets. I use something similar to this tool.

That is a "Must Have" item for work around finished paint.

Tubular rivets can be set nicely with a pneumatic tool - I have done it. Brent is correct that the very small tubular rivets could be a problem with an air hammer like for the hood rivets. You do need to buy a special semi-tubular tool bit to use to do it on larger rivets. I bought my tool from Big Flats Rivet company. It works very well on 3/16" semi-tubular rivets used for riveting metal seat fames together and installing the metal seat stops on the wood frame of a coupe seat cushion. I have done both with very nice looking results. You do need to reduce the air pressure to 40-50 # as the tubular end is a little fragile. I think the yellow tool you have in the picture would work fine for hood corner rivets. I think the hood rivets are very similar in size to brake rivets, which the tool was made for setting. Hope this helps.
