It is my understanding that the stamped steel braces were introduced in the 1930 model year. Gar Williams

Re: Front fender braces ??

If I understand the Judging Standards correctly (Section 4, page 4-14 Revised 2011 ff) the front fender braces underwent a number of changes:

Thru April 1929 – forged with 3-bolt mounting;
April 1929 – stamped brackets with tapered channel and 3-bolt mounting (both forged and stamped used during April/May 1929);
November 1929 – stamped brackets with straight channel and 2-bolt mounting;
January 1930 – new forged design with 3-bolt mounting;
April 1930 – stamped steel with open side of the channel facing fender.

There were other changes having to do with reinforcements, channel length, etc., which are spelled out in the Judging Standards.

Hey Steve,

I'ed go with the forged type, much stronger than the pressed steel..The steel type tend to crack at the bottom.
