35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
 

Going into my 4th month of the rebuild and I've just about wrapped up the rolling chassis.

Started off as a bit of a mess because though it's been parked for at least 3 decades under a leaking roof and sometime before it was parked the last time its had its share of mods. And it was missing a lot of parts. It did come with a 8ba mostly complete. Also a side shift trans a 40ish steering column, incomplete 39 brakes and I think a 39 rear end.

So in my first picture I'll unveil the chassis, I've rebuilt the column and pedal assembly, repaired some of frame all new bushings ang shackles, rebuilt or replaced the entire brake system and reconstructed the missing parking brake, fuel line and sending unit, rebuilt hubs.

Can see the pic now, it looks like you've made some good solid progress. It looks like you have a nicely equipped shop to work in.

Pic from December before I started complete teardown, what you don't see is besides the nos possibly 35 grille is missing parts I haven't yet located

thats really cool, i actually started pulling apart the ujoint and trans mount today and degreasing the trans housing, ive got all new gaskets and seals and hope the inside looks as good and rust free as the ujoint. we will see tomorrow when i pull the side cover. your pickup looks like it was in slightly better shape or at least started with more parts, im missing doors, hood, fenders, and running boards. got a bunch of videos, not of me actually working cause its all done on my phone and i usually dont have a free hand to film so it all ends up me talking to myself making notes to my self. boring stuff im sure https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkY...tbWKE1uVSxx-fQ

speaking of the transmission, i know i can get the trans mount new repro for about 50 bucks or so but does anyone sell just the rubber for considerably less?

Found grandpa's bible. But doesn't seem to show an exploded view of the 35 pickup front end so I still don't know what parts I'm looking for to go under the grille:confused:

Transmission going in, clutch pedal and release shaft mated, mount bolts in but not torqued. Don't mind that ujoint gasket hanging around. Wanted to get everything in place before rtv and gasket were installed and ran out of time today

Rust repairs starting. New rockers, patched up some holes under the rockers.

I guess it's good to know I am not the only one with a Frankenstein truck. Mine is mostly 36' with a 37' big truck cab. It also has a 8BA, running through a 3 speed top loader. 40's juice brakes, 40s steering gear and a 48 Plymouth E brake handle. Lots of other shade tree mods. done in the fifties. I found lots of shooters brass, two packs of Pall Malls in the door and some old road maps from the fifties. I guess our trucks have a lot in common. Good luck with the project!!

got slightly overzealous on my shrinking and i dont have a stretcher so i had to get creative with some propane and a vice but it got the job done. 10pm and i hadnt had dinner so i quit to grab something to eat on my way home and ill start cutting tomorrow

I've finished repairs on the cross brace under the seat and inner cowl panels. Also recreated the front if the sub rail under the rotted cowl panels from the engine bay to about the door jams and now... I'm working in the mess of the rear cab panel.

Dents too numerous to count, serious oil can popped from the stretched concave warpage. The cab corners are coming together and slowly working the surface flatish towards the center. Never tried to get such a large and screwed surface crowned just right before, and kinda regretting it.

Now I'm thinking I'd have had an easier time and less time just cutting it all out and making a panel in the slip roller. Which I may end up doing anyway as I get it closer to center

Wasn't the 1937 cab split windshield? 1/2 ton was, did the big stuff use the pre 37 cab?

Made my first panel with a slip roller today, 37" max on the roller so my panel is 36" on its longer side so i could send the panel through both ways to have a slight crown both ways. Got about an 1/8" to trim off the passenger side to fit the butt clamps and need to cut for the lower bead patch but it fits pretty well for a virgin. And an hour or two was definitely less work than trying to fix what was there with a hammer
