NEW 1940 Coupe Anybody take delivery of a new repro 1940 coupe yet? What can you tell me/us about it? I'm beginning to think they don't "really" exist...

Re: NEW 1940 Coupe 1840 Coupe??? Really??? How many horses???
|
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe my apologies Lawson, I did not read the joking inflection in your typed response. From what I've seen in the old westerns, the 1840 had somewhere between 6-8 horses!

Re: NEW 1940 Coupe 40, you can go back to your original post, click on EDIT and easily correct that typo. I'm sure Lawson was just kidding with you a little since you are a new guy on the forum. Just go with the flow here...most all who post here are friendly and helpful. IMO
Back to the subject of your post.... Have not heard from anyone who has bought one yet. Before I would pay $15,450 for a '40 repro body shell with firewall, doors, and deck lid, I would look for an original older restoration that is complete or maybe one that has been tastefully modified/upgraded with later fomoco components. It seems like there are still plenty of nice original 40 coupes out there for sale. So I am wondering what type of research was done on this development project that said 40 Ford coupes were the best selection to reproduce for maximum return on investment? |
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe For that much I would buy a roached one and patch it myself.

Dump the attitude. |
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe Don't waste the money on one. I found a 40 standard that the guy was wanting 600 for. It was rusty. But it could be made into a great body for a few thousand doing the work yourself.

Re: NEW 1940 Coupe Ring Dennis Carpenter and ask him.
I am sure the response will be positive. |
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe 40's is off to a great start ! He'll go a long way on here huh !

Re: NEW 1940 Coupe The 40 does exist and the first one was put together with the Carpenter parts right here in Knoxville Tn to be the display model.
|
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe There are still 40 coupe bodies out there that can be made into nice cars for a lot less money. If they consider making any new sheetmetal parts they should be looking at making new 40-41 pickup rear fenders. There's a real need for those fenders.
|
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe I agree with TJ on the PU fenders, not many options right now. The new coupe was pictured last fall in the Moonshiners coverage by Vic. Carpenter had it at Dawsonville, I was there and thought it looked very good but would rather buy real Henry metal. There are many good 40 coupes poised to come out of the woodwork in the next few years. Did you see the one posted here last week that "followed him home" after spending 50 years with the last owner? Those cars have had permanent homes for decades but many will getting new owners soon.
Last, Lawson is a real asset to this forum. Your attitude speaks volumes. Good luck with it! |
Re: NEW 1940 Coupe You could make a fordor sedan into a coupe for less that buying one of their bodies. Buy their quarters, roof, tail pan and deck lid. Use the front doors off the fordor. Get what ever braces you need or make them. And you will still come out less. Bunch of work but doable. You can find fordors for cheap.

You have been here for 1 1/2 months with 3 posts to your name. And now you are getting on Lawson about if he has anything valuable to contribute? Really? Think about it. Neal |
Welcoming Their Arrival, Selling Mine? I have too many cars and plan to sell some of my '40 Coupes when I have sorted out the titles. Great to see the abundance of support from the big vendors. The Big Three is this weekend in San Diego and I will be watching for the new '40 stuff also. Good Luck: Fred A

Re: NEW 1940 Coupe the 2012 Street Rodder Road Tour car was built from one of the new repro 40 bodies. several articles on the build up in Street Rodder. Have seen the car and it is a beautiful hot rod, custom chassis,Roush motor etc. Way out of my league.
