So, an AR Early28 Starter has a unique small Bendix Spring Trying to get a customers Early 1928 Sport Coupe started, and there was a lot of odd sounds coming out of the bellhousing. My guess is someone in the past installed a later bendix spring, it spins out of center. Was the original AR spring a smaller diameter? Next question is were do we get one? Thanks, Bob...... NOTE: This car has most of the unique AR features, along with some I've never seen before, like the headlight switch with stamped instructions.

Re: So, an AR Early28 Starter has a unique small Bendix Spring They are really hard to find. Last time I checked they were selling for arojnd $40 each. I have had 2 of them over 30 years. I thought I had another one in some parts I bought afew years ago, but after looking it over a little closer it is wound the wrong way. Size is spot on. Rod

Re: So, an AR Early28 Starter has a unique small Bendix Spring Make sure no one put a bolt in the spring where a headless slotted screw is supposed to be .
The bolt head hits the flywheel and this was the result on mine ...... http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...tedstarter.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...hedbendix2.jpg |
