Kuddos to Ron Kelley

Many of you who have read my post in the past know that I have a Ron Kelley engine in my car and I've really enjoyed it's performance the past two years as well as working with Ron during the build process.

Recently I had a funny noise coming from my engine at idle. It was a light knocking noise but I couldn't trace it down. I started by thinking it was maybe a valve seat, so I pulled the head and while doing so, I noticed the water pump had movement forward/backward in the shaft, so I thought this could be the noise but went ahead and pulled the head anyways. Everything looked perfect up on the top so I put it back together with a new water pump. And the knocking noise was still there.

So I called Ron and he agreed to let me bring the car over and let him listen to the noise. In doing so, he narrowed it down to a few possible things, but all required pulling the pan to check. So right there on the trailer we pulled the pan. We realized my oil pump housing (which I installed) had cracked in half in the upper portion that's inserted towards the drive gear. We also realized the dipper tray on the back end had loosened up a little bit (which I had also installed) and had some marks where the counter weight had struck it (probably the knocking noise). He also checked the rods lateral movement and adjusted one. Upon pulling the cap he showed me the bearings which still looked brand new after around 10,000 miles.

He got me a new oil pump housing and then a dipper tray which was in better shape to stay latched down better in the pan. Then put the pan back up on the motor and fired it up- the noise was gone!

The moral of the story: Ron helped me when I needed the help. He really only charged me for the parts because I was there helping. This motor was well out of warranty and yet he went the extra mile to ensure a happy customer.

Thanks Ron!!

A++++ Customer Service

I bought an engine from him yesterday. I went with him because of the possitive comments about him on this board. When I spoke with him I found him to be very helpful and a joy to work with.
