Universal Lube Issue

The universal on the 34 and other year Fords is in a grease cavity. BUT looking at the Service bulleton it says use "cyclinder oil thinkened with sodium tallow soap"... I assume that this is thinner than a grease used on the other parts of the chassis with a viscosity of 150to 220. So I assume that this "special" stuff for the universal is thinner to help get internal to the bearing surfaces but if too thin it will leak out of the bell housing on the torque tube. SO ANY THOUGHT ON THE BEST GREASE TO USE?

Thanks

John Deere corn head grease. It liquifies under use then thickens again after shut down. It works the best of anything that I'm aware of.

Ed: Can not get the old style grease anymore. Just be sure you use a grease that is low temp, I use Costal and buy it at Auto Zone. I think the melting point is 250 deg's. A high temp grease will cut out a cavity and not lube the Ujoint. Hope this helps...Tom..

That is what I have read from others who use it. Seen a video of it working but can't remember the site.

I have never heard of this stuff, not to many John Deere combines here in Southern California. I found this video on the corn head grease. About halfway down the page there is a spot to click on the video.

I had the same problem for months; My local JD dealer would order me a case and I had to buy the whole thing. Would have been cheaper then going to Tennesseee and getting it! If you order it better get more then one mine was cleaned out and used a lot to fill it where I could see it with the speedo gear cover removed.

Here is a site it can be ordered.
