'31 Town Sedan top Bead I am in need of an original or original type top seal for my '31 slant window sedan. I believe the originals were steel or some type of metal. The one I have on the car is a cloth bead and I am looking to make it original type. Can anyone help me understand what I am needing or where to look.
Thanks |
Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead This part is unique to the slant window and has a rubber center like the 32 Ford. The only way I know of getting one is from another car.

Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead Snyder's has it in shorter sections. They say it takes three sections for a sedan.

Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead The roof moldings are Style R4 in Bratton's catalog / judging standard. Reproduction moldings are extruded aluminum and the originals moldings are steel. The reproduction aluminum moldings will not mate with the original moldings because the aluminum moldings have a thicker cross section.
The R4 side moldings come in 6 foot lengths. Originally, Murray & Briggs used 2 pieces of side molding with a butt joint centered over the rear window. I think it takes 3 pieces of the reproduction side moldings to do a Fordor, so there will be an extra joint. For those doing a Steel-Back Victoria, you will need 2 pieces of the R4 side moldings as the actual length is 93 inches. |
Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead I used the aluminum molding on my S/W car, and it came out quite nice.

Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead What are you folks using for the "rubber" center of top molding? Was the center filled with rubber or fabric originally. thanks

Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead Rubber, same as 32 Ford.

Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead Arlyn,
I purchased the aluminum moldings and the rubber center from Brattons. They sell both pieces. |
Re: '31 Town Sedan top Bead Great thread, could someone post a photo of the moulding that seams to be the most correct? I'm a long ways away from needing it but like to know what the proper parts should be. Bob
