Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch 2 Attachment(s)
Trying to determine the type of screw that was used originally to attach the rumble lid latch to lid.
On the second picture I don't believe it is the one on the left as the hole in the lid is not machined to accept this type of screw. Is it the one in the middle or like the one on the right (sorry for the poor example)? |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Hunter,
I think it is the first one, but I could be wrong. Look at this post..... ................ rumble lid to trunk lid.................. In the search at the top of the page |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch D.J.,
I couldn't find the post. Perhaps if you could give me the date that the thread was started. Appreciate your help !! |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Counter sunk screws.
You will notice the D nut is not flush at the top of the plate to allow clearance for the taper. Also check out my rumble lid page: Rumble lids |

Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Kevin,
Follow up question. On your website for the 28/29 lid it appears the top of the screws are not flush with the rumble lid surface. This is the issue I have if I use the countersunk screws. Is it correct that the screws are not flush? Thanks - Hunter |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Did you put a counter sink edge on the holes of the sheet metal?
Been a while so someone correct me. I am pretty sure the sheet metal was countersunk with a drill. That is what is being recalled in my brain from the almost perfect rust free 28-29 trunk lid I owned at one time. |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch I believe they are supposed to be oval head slotted screws. The repros are anyway.

Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch mrtexas,
The 28-29 lid in Kevin's photo is Doug Clayton's. The 30-31 lid, same photo is Marco's. Both are correct cars. |

Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch I have an Aug 1928 roadster with the original rumble lid and latch parts (not a converted trunk lid) and it has flat head screws installed and they are flush with the surface. I don’t want to remove them to see if they are counter sunk as I might chip the paint around them. I assume they are countersunk.

Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Marco,
I see it now, no rear window bumpers. Is it also Rose Beige ? Love that rumble lid ! The screw, it has a special head?? |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Quote:
I ASSUMED the screws were #10-32 flat head machine screws as they were in '30-31 but can't explain the lack of fit as if the holes in the skin are undersized. If I knew with certainty I would have said so yesterday. |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Chuckstinn - Thanks - I am gong to go with what you observe on your original car/parts.
Marco, Mr Texas, and DJ - thanks for reading the post and helping me out! |
Re: Correct Screws for Rumble Lid Latch Sorry Kevin - Thanks also for your help!! I have enjoyed your web site over the years.
