Blitz

My mate has just bough a WW2 ford blitz, good buy with a rebuilt flathead,
Its a 4x4 with hi and low range,
But it is geared as low as, and at 40 mph in high range the eng is revving like an F11,
Is there ring and pinions avail to get a bit better speed with less rpm.

I have no pics of the diffs, But they are a bit like the ones fitted to my 33 ONLY much larger.
I have a pic of the front of the truck but I took it on my iPhone and I cant load it onto my post.

Lawrie: I told you not to follow MY advice about transferring photos from iPhone to computer to barn. For shame. LOL

Lawson, you know how dumb I am
I will get my mate to look out how to fix it.
The iPhone pics are in a different format and I dont know how to change them on my Mac

Pete thats the truck
It a great thing and I bet it would go anywhere,
I have a pic of my uncle in WW2 in front of a ford beer barrel truck , carrion says some KIWIs soldiers taking a rest after chasing the Germans .

My avatar is a '42 F30S [CMP Canadian Military Production]and I recommend you live with the gears. Front and rear diffs are matched. Probably the 'banjo' type. Change the rear and have to remove the front drive shaft. Newc

Re: Blitz

Thanks Newc
My mate will live with it for sure as he lives in the country and only wants to go on the hi way once every year to the Anzac service, about 5 miles , and once in a while drive it around where he lives,A locality called Mt Larcom.
I knew it would be a big job,
Lawrie

Re: Blitz

Believe them to be split Timkens. An option, though I don’t know if they would fit, would be 5.14:1 out of an F4. I think they would, but a Ford truck manual would be a good source. Check with Chuck Mantiglia of Chucks Trucks. He has most likely forgotten more truck stuff then most folks ever knew. He deals with MH restorations, as well as cars, pickups, and trucks.

Re: Blitz

As an aside, I am curious as to the manufacturer of the transfer case for those and the CMPs. The MH used a Fuller, and during the Korean War, Wisconsin was sub-contracts to provide transfer cases. My 52 has the Wisconsin transfer case, it has a one piece case. The serial number provided by MH has a W behind it, denoting the Wisconsin transfer case. I have a 2 piece Fuller on my shop floor.

Nothing like a cast iron gear-drive transfer case. These new aluminum chain driven wonders are junk. Bunch of Chevy 2500 “HD” pickups at work. 2 days of muddy haul roads, and transfer cases sound like rock crushers. Then to town for new case.

I agree with 1952henry, if the axle looks like the one in the picture the best you can do with gears is 5.14 1940-47 ford 1.5 ton.

That looks like a Coleman conversion. Is it yours?
