1925 model T pickup bed

I have a 1925 model t pickup bed that is in pretty good shape. No rust through etc. pretty straight. The tail gate is not original because it has the ford script on it and i think that the original 1925 ones did not have the script. I am trying to get a rough idea on what it is worth. Have you guys seen any sell recently that you could give me an idea on it. As far as I know there isn't anybody making a reproduction 1925 bed yet so i would think that they are somewhat rare. I am building a 1929 model A and looking to get rid of it so that I can get the correct bed for my A.

Thanks

Ford's first metal bed for the T passenger car was introduced in April 1925 and that design bed lasted until Aug 1925 when the 'Improved Car' came out, the bed was redesigned to use the bolt on runabout/coupe fenders, and is very different than the early '25 bed. Some very early '25 beds did not have the Ford script.

The first '26 bed had the up front stake pocket like the '25, but that didn't last long as the '26 runabout tub overhung the bed and no wood stake could be used for flare boards. So in Dec '25 the Improved Car metal pickup bed has those front stake pockets moved back by 7" or so.

Pictures of a rusty '25 bed alone [the '25 is rather rare, about 20,000 were mfg, it has inside bed panel reinforcement for the fender iron rods to hang the rear fender]; '26 early bed in Ford Adv,; '26-'27 bed as shown in the Ford Body Parts Price boo; Photo of the '26-'27 later bed with stake pocket positioned back from the body tub.

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

The 1925 bed was mounted higher above the frame and does not have the provisions to clear the rear spring. Note on the last posting, the floor boards go all the way from front to rear on the 1925 and on the 26/27, there is a cut out with a metal plate covering the rear spring. Both style beds have provisions to access the battery on the front left corner.

Are the "fender iron rods" for the '25 pickup bed the same as the fender iron rods used on the '25 runabout?

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

No,they are straight and the rod tapers down toward the outside edge.

Southfork, if you can obtain one for a pattern, and you or someone you know is handy with a metal lathe a very close replica can be fabricated (we're talking fender brace here). This is what I'm having to do on my '25 rpu.

Thanks TMODELMAN for the history lesson on the 1/4 ton pickup beds. Over the years I have managed to acquire at least one of each of the four designs.

Another feature of the 26-27 bed is the metal filler piece on the bottom front section that fills the void were the body tapers forward. Will take photos of the one at work on Monday.

Thanks for the info guys. I am tempted to pick up a T to build to use the bed instead of trying to sell it.

Hi Fellows,
I've been registered to this forum for some time. This is the first time that I post. This is an interesting topic. I'm curious to know if a '25 or '26/27 pickup bed will work on an earlier model Model T Runabout?

Thank you

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

The '25 will work quite nicely. The '26/'27 is a "horse of a different color". It could be installed, but would look awkward.

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

Could someone post some pictures of the actual underside mounting of a 25 T pickup bed. I also have a 25 bed, but I am not sure about the correct mounting and does it get a metal trim piece around the bottom like used on the roadsters (trunk)?????

Don't have under view, but the '25 bed was made to be placed over the '25 runabout body after removal of the turtle deck. So all deck boards and side and rear metal trim on a runabout would be present.

The metal '25 bed is placed on top of the rear deck. In effect a double wood floor.

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

Thanks Tmodelman, the 25 bed is almost rare and the last one I saw was on some sort of a built up frame, not the roadster trunk frame. 26/27 beds I see more often.

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

Hello fellas, i have a 22 roadster, and i was wondering if a 25 or later steel bed would fit, as i like the look, i will hang on to the turtledeck as it is the original one that it left the assemblyline with, but i would like to make the T more 'usefull' by converting to a pickup. or would a wood one be more period correct for a 22.
I understand that original beds are rare and repro's are not produced yet, so maybe a wood one is a simpler solution (i could build it myself) but i simply like the looks of the steel bed more

The 25 bed would fit,but wood would be more era correct.

Re: 1925 model T pickup bed

Don't forget that the fender irons are unique to the '25 bed.
