Do a google maps search of the place... 3623 Westlake Glenview, IL 60025

It is most definitely suburbs. I believe the museum is located on his family's farm land that was slowly annexed away by the town or village.

I've got to lay down. My head is spinning and I feel a bit queezy. Brain overload.

What is the car with the two grills? I've never seen anything like that. Also looks like there is an ad for it too.

Here is a whole set of pictures from a Harley Club that visited some years ago. The emphasis is on Motorcycles but you get the point...

As for the dual-grill Lincoln, here is some information about it from Hemmings.

It is going to be a truly remarkable auction. Hope it doesn't rain!

What's the story on the dual grill car? I've never heard of such a thing, and it sure is odd looking. It could make any sober guy think he was drunk.:D:p:rolleyes:

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago

Someone posted these shots in the AACA forum, a lot of the A's are shown here. But what is really cool is how your eye at first focuses on whatever the center piece of the picture is, a car, motorcycle, whatever and then is distracted by the stuff piled around, in and on the item. http://www.flickr.com/photos/6728458...7627483956753/

Wick: Can't help you with campgrounds in that area. I'm a Southsider and that place is way up on the Northside. I'm already planning on attending the auction and probably going to commute from home as it is about an hour drive for me.

Can you tell I'm excited?

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago

Here are some youtube videos put up a few weeks ago that try to show how much stuff is there. This is one of those places where you can spend three days and STILL not see everything.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGBJ962eRGc

I wonder if his ashes are in that box at the very begining of this video. If it were me, and I had a collection like that, I'd have my ashes put in a blower and spread all over everything.lol. Yep, buy my stuff and you have to take a little bit of me along for the ride.
I've been in hundreds of antique shops & crawled around in the most disgusting holes on earth looking for STUFF and all I had to do was make one trip to this place to see most everything I could ever want to see. Thanks for the post.

Going to miss the auction, will me on vacation in Spain. If I canceled my trip I still would not be able to attend as it would be hard to get there after my dear wife broke both of my arms and leggs! lol

Yikes! like going to Hershey, but without all the walking.......

am planning to visit my daughter in northern OH around that time.
very tempting to cruise over there and have a look. sort of like Harrah's collection, not too many opportunities to see something like this.....

That is a very fitting request to honor a guy that spent a lifetime collecting all that great stuff. I really hope I can get there. Bob

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago

Everyday that I wake up there is more information coming to light.

Hemmings' Blog posted a short story which included the attached picture; a sign that stood at the entrance to the museum listing the cars on display.

So, whilst drinking my morning coffee, I went through and typed out all of the cars, 81 total including 39 Model A's. There are still a bunch of little things that I can't make out, those are mainly the motorcycles and bikes. Also; these are only the cars/trucks inside the building. He has a lot more scattered elsewhere.
